Anybody know how many movies they are planning on breaking up the first book into?
Save a life. Adopt a Greyhound.

I've heard two, not seen that in print however.

Gonna watch the film come saturday with a few friends. Play poker afterwards. Haven't seen one of them in over 4 years i think.

Honestly, possibly. It definitely drags on a lot, but if it didn't it would also make zero sense.

I've seen the name multiple times, but it just clicked to me that Denis Villeneuve was trained in the French school of cinematography and it shows so much.
Edit -  And that he did Blade Runner, holy shit lol.

Okay, people trivia: Duke Leto is Poe Dameron. Chani is MJ from the Spiderman movies. The Baron is the scientist from the Thor movies.

The movie is visually dramatic, and that kept me awake.  Beyond that, it was like trying to understand a Rorschach Inkblot while on LSD.  That there was conflict I could understand easy enough, but I was not able to understand why I should care about it.  I'm looking forward to the DVD, because I hope to understand what all the fuss is about.  The first Dune left no impression on me, but I never gave it a second chance.  I'm considering reading the book.

I ordered the paperback on ebay.  Most of the copies were expensive leather bound collector editions.  I've never seen such emphasis on collectables in the $70 range.

If this is all things Dune, I'll make a friendly wager that I am the only person on this site that has played Dune, the board game--from Avalon Hill.  I wish I still had the game; lost it in one of my moves I think.

LOL I thought this was an exaggeration until I actually watched it.  Pretty much.  I was nervous as hell watching it with a Dune newbie, which I feared would be incredibly confusing/off-putting.  But apparently she liked it.  Wonders never cease.

QuoteThat there was conflict I could understand easy enough, but I was not able to understand why I should care about it.
Exactly correct.  We didn't get enough of an introduction to the politics of Dune or ongoing feud between the Houses, so there's little context to all these pretty establishing shots and battle scenes.

It has a smaller budget, so lacks a lot of special effects, all-star cast, and gorgeous shots, but it makes up for it by captivating acting and more accessible plot.  You will care about the characters.  You will see more scheming.  You will see the banquet scene.  Things will make more sense.

While I do not condone spice smuggling, suffice it to say that YOU may find it as easy to spot as a highliner TUBE.
