The "Shakers" believe that women and and men have equal importance and that their Mother Ann Lee is a female incarnation of Jesus.

Shakers were celibate. There are not a lot of them for some reason. I hereby invite all religions to adopt the practice of celibacy!!!

So you support Catholic orthodoxy for priests/monks/nuns?  They are not extinct.  Shakers are, because they were not a religious community within a broader society, but a totalitarian commune.  In that respect many here would endorse that aspect of their life style.  Think extreme kibbutz before Palestine was recolonized.

The Shakers are quite interesting, the Anglo-sphere produced many interesting religious variants from 1600-1800 including Mormonism.  People like the Shakers now, because of their hand made simple style furniture ;-)
