Some people consider fear to be an utterly undesirable trait - valuing fearlessness - but imo, it's perfectly rational to be scared about something that is a clear and present danger and to be fully aware of one's own vulnerability and use appropriate safeguards.  Fearless people tend to wind up in predators' bellies.
