Yep ... predators increase, prey decrease, predators decrease, prey increase ... meanwhile seasonal weather, long term weather changes, and slow mutation/adaptation shift the game.  Velociraptors back then, humans today ... same biological game, but with better technology.

Our perception can be primarily based on objective sensation data, or not.  Then there is subjective sensation data (not reproducible external data).  Then there is subjective psychological wanking ;-)  Can anyone guess which humans prefer?  Ultimately one hits bottom individually and socially, in skid-row.
