I was reading an article in a newspaper recently that briefly mentioned the workings of how Dissociative Identity Disorder effects people. It got me interested and looked up more online about the workings of it.

Accounts vary but many say its like a state of amnesia when one persons personality takes over from their regular one, perhaps brought on by emotional or stress related factors. Its quite a terrifying thought to imagine someone else in control of your body while you just fade out of existence for a moment.

One reason why it sparked interest for me, was remembering my first boyfriend, going back like 20 years, I'm certain he might have been suffering this kind of disorder, since he always felt like he was being followed by someone, but his sister revealing to me how he was not well in the head, which caused him to burn down her home.

Someone also brought up an interesting notion, that all these so called 'demon possessions' people have claimed to have undergone, this could be a result of that, having someone with such a tragic or fractured personality held in the brain that when it takes over that person because feral like (and made worse by asshole priests pinning them down and throwing holy water on them).

I remember when on Tumblr and such people started claiming they had headmates. Happened during the height of entire 'otherkin' bullshittery.
Made me so madbecause it detracted from real life awful mental illnesses like DID.

As someone who suffers from dissociation, it was really weird reading your description of this. Took me a minute to realise it's just the new way of saying split personality disorder.

DID is definitely something that the general public has next to zero accurate knowledge on, in large part due to lack of education about it but also in large part because of how often it has been misrepresented in media.

"You may wonder if dissociative identity disorder is real. After all, understanding the development of multiple personalities is difficult, even for highly trained experts. The diagnosis itself remains controversial among mental health professionals, with some experts believing that it is really an "offshoot" phenomenon of another psychiatric problem, such as borderline personality disorder, or the product of profound difficulties in coping abilities or stresses related to how people form trusting emotional relationships with others." - WebMD

The controversy is how this relates to other mental conditions, not if it exists.  Is it a separate illness?  The problem started because of the controversy that developed over the book and movie The Three Faces Of Eve (1957)

Sometimes, because of hype and earning money ... psychology goes off the rails.  Gay reversal therapy.  Satanist pedophilia hysteria.  Where the malpractice of the psychologist is an issue.  Today there is over-enthusiasm for early trans-sexual transition for children.  Unfortunately, as per Munchausen syndrome, the parents are a part of the dysfunction.

Is there any person who has not any mixture of personality disorders, from very mild to moderate to severe?

Psycology wants to understand ''normal'' person? What is normal? Is he who abides by the norms? :D

There are no normal people.  People posting here demonstrates that ;-)
