If Rock and Roll is a religion, then YES is my church, and Jon Anderson is my high priest. I just let go, and share his spirit. His imagery lift's my heart, and sparks my imagination, at the same time. His stated intent, with some of his music, is to awaken long-buried memories. I don't know if it's capable of all that, but it's pretty cool at any rate. NOBODY makes music like YES.

ANYWAY, Yes is being inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, this year. Regardless of your estimation of the honor, we may, at least, get to see a small YES reunion. Jon hasn't sung with the entire band in a long time.

Here's a Rolling Stone interview, with Jon Anderson:

I wouldn't know where to start, suggesting songs they should play. This is one of my favorites, but it's a little on the long side.

Never was a big Yes fan myself, but absolutely they belong in the R&RHoF.

By the way, I recommend the trip to Cleveland to see it.  The building's amazing.

I got to see them on June 6 1976. We were pretty excited because among other reasons they were handing out flyers for an August 1 Rush show for the 2112 tour. Unfortunately the 76 Yes show was part a tour promoting some of the members solo work. They still played a lot of Yes stuff, but not as much as I would have liked to hear. Here's the playlist for the set.

"Apocalypse" (Anderson, Squire, Howe, Bruford)
"Siberian Khatru" (Anderson, Howe, Wakeman)
"Sound Chaser" (Anderson, Squire, Howe, White, Moraz)
"I've Seen All Good People" (Anderson, Squire)
"Hold Out Your Hand/You By My Side" (Squire) from Chris Squire's 1975 solo album Fish Out of Water
"Leaves of Green" (Anderson, Squire, Howe, Wakeman, White)
"Beginnings" (Howe) from Beginnings
"On Wings of Gold" based on "Winter" by Vivaldi
"Song of Innocence" (William Blake, Pete Kirtley) from Ramshackled
"Long Distance Runaround" (Anderson) / Moraz solo
"Grand Canyon Suite" (Moraz)
Harp solo
"Wonderous Stories" (Anderson)
"Heart of the Sunrise" (Anderson, Squire, Bruford)
"Roundabout" (Anderson, Howe)
"I'm Down" (Lennon, McCartney) originally by the Beatles in 1965
"Sweet Dreams" (Anderson, Foster)

Simply fucking amazing what kind of information is available on the interwebz these days...

I was kind of driven to distraction by Yes because the DJ on before me at our college station always (not usually, but genuinely always) closed out his show with a Yes cut of some sort or another and after a year it got pretty tedious.

I don't think they're a bad band, they're just not my musical cup of tea.  I neither object to them, nor seek them out.

I liked YES but mostly because it made a really nice belt buckle.

Roger Dean designed the YES logo in 1971, for the album, Fragile, which was also the first album that Steve Howe recorded with the band...

He created this logo for them, in 1996:

King Crimson is probably the closest thing to a band like unto YES...but they were just the progressive rock equivalent of John the Baptist. They pointed the way to YES...

I went on a very nice journey to the center of the Earth with Rick Wakeman. I was living on Mt. Etna at the time, so it was very cool.
