Let me introduce myself, I've been an atheist for quite a long time now ( former Catholic ). I'm a 16 year old boy who doesn't care much about sports and any of the testosterone stuff. I love physics, books, video games, and I play the guitar. I live in Lebanon, which is obviously not the best place to be an atheist, and would love to share my opinions and ideas with other people, unfortunately I don't have any atheist friend and my family is too religious. I'm not completely open about my atheism to the whole family let alone friends, however I always slip the occasional innuendo about my atheism.

Welcome

Hey welcome.

I'm not sure about what its like in lebanon, but anywhere really, its best to remain careful. One of the biggest problems a lot of young atheists face, and young gay people, is being outed for their atheism/sexuality to their family, and the family reacting badly to it.
Its always best to wait until you can support yourself, before telling your family about it, just incase.

Welcome, and take care.  It is normal for young people to be rebellious ... sometimes in religion too.  Best to keep that a true secret for now.  You have much life ahead of you, so don't get too impatient.

Welcome to the forum.  I'm from Lebanon originally, but I live in the US.  The important question is are you M14 or M8?

Lots of them most certainly can identify with you. And most certainly you have the support of atheists worldwide. We come from all sorts of nations, have left all the major religions, and we come in all colors.

But please please please stay safe. I hope someday your nation will change, and or you can move to a place where you can be yourself without fear.

Could you explain????
QuoteA journalist, researching for an article on the complex political situation in Northern Ireland, was in a pub in a war-torn area of Belfast. One of his potential informants leaned over his pint of Guinness and suspiciously cross-examined the journalist: "Are you a Catholic or a Protestant?" the Irishman asked.
"Neither," replied the journalist; "I'm an atheist."
The Irishman, not content with this answer, put a further question: "Ah, but are you a Catholic atheist or a Protestant atheist?

In Lebanon, almost everyone is divided between two political/religious factions known as March 08 and March 14: M8 includes most of the Shia and half of the Christians; and M14 includes most of the Sunnis and half of the Christians.  Some Lebanese are independent, but not many.  The last name of our new member here ends with "ian".  There is a really good chance he's Armenian. Statistically, he should be M8, but not necessarily so.

Thanks.  I had no idea.  I appreciate the education.

I'm really not that much into politics and the two parties are always at loggerheads
