Not worth discussing. You love this girl and think she's the bees knees and Joan Jett somehow approves as well so nothing beyond that is worth discussing. Continue on with your for she's a jolly good fellow/hard rock is the pinnacle of musical achievement love fest and forget I said anything.

:wtff: Why is Joan Jett being brought into this thread? By the way, I don't love that girl, but I do love Joan Jett, the Queen of Rock.

Good question. Ask the person who titled the thread.

You really are a dumb ass if you don't realize Joan Jett was talking about the major and minor music publishers who said girls can't play rock, and not the girl in the videos. Why are you being such an ass about this topic? You must be from the Midwest, and why I left years ago.  :butt: :kidra:

..... Solitary..... Johan isn't the one being an ass in this thread. If you read what he is saying and thought about it, rather than knee-jerking into an argument, you probably would see what he was saying and realize he was never arguing with you.

The hell he isn't!  Quote, " Covers of other people's stuff is fun and all, but Eddie VH and Steve Vai didn't get where they are by playing covers. " Which is an outright lie! They have all played cover songs. Then he puts the snide diagram showing I missed the point, then I showed him what my point was and he refused to explain to me what I missed. IS THAT ASKING TOO MUCH? Then he brings Loan Jett into the topic because she is quoted as saying dumbass about people that think girls can't play Rock and Roll. This same jerk told me I shouldn't be a teacher in another post. I'm starting an argument wanting to know what the hell his point is because I don't get it and ask him to explain so I can? And I have read everything he posted. I'm not the only one here that he has locked horns with and then acts so innocent and cries to staff.

I thought this was a forum where people argue, not Bible class. Knee jerk response? When he can't explain what he means so I can understand it after his kneejerk response snide diagram and remark about the topic to bring Joan Jett into the argument. I never knew starting an argument at a forum was something to contact staff about. He said he was leaving the topic alone, but keeps posting snide remarks and I'm the one that is being a jerk.

I agree with Johan, her style of play was a big turn off for me. I have listened to much less skillful players who have made the songs much more interesting thanks to their personality, and I would really rather listen to them play than someone that feels like a computer.

I agree, Johan. It did seem a bit robotic and the subtle nuances that make a song sound more.... "natural" are lacking a bit.... but I have a feeling she will get there in due time. Either way, her technical ability is lightyears ahead of where even most adults are. It's just a matter of taking the tools she has and developing a more organic style of her own... which like I was hinting in the previous sentence, it will come eventually.

As for doing covers... I don't know much about the music business, but I always figured doing covers and something someone can already relate to helped, but maybe I was wrong about that? I do know that Yngwie, Vai, Eric Johnson, and Joe Satriani do G3 together and do covers of some of their heroes.... Either way. I just like to hear rocking music, no matter where it comes from. If it's good, it's good.

:wtff: This girl is only 14. And do you honestly think Yngwie, Van Halen, and Steve Vai , never learn to play the guitar by using other people's music? Does Yigwie play with feeling, or like a computer, when he plays faster than hell? I bet you think Yngwie, Van Halen, and Steve Vai, never took Classical music lessons too. Since when is music judged on personality. Also, Yngwie, Van Halen, and Steve Vai, have all played cover tunes. One has to learn like a computer before than can play with feeling. Ever hear of scales, chords, fret boards, finger position, that are all learned mechanically? When any of you can play and be bored like this little girl, show us a video of your playing.  :kidra:

From a purely technical perspective yes, from a musical taste perspective though things are a little more subjective, but that's a discussion for another thread.

But seriously, I can't put my finger on this girl. There is something not really right going on in these clips. I means she's obviously got fingers that's for sure, she's like a machine on that guitar. And that's what I can't sort out. She is like a machine. Even the clip where she's doing slower more 'feeling' type stuff seems very robotic to me.

Believe me I'm not putting this girl down. I think she has an amazing amount of aptitude. I tend to avoid using the word talent as a rule because everyone seems to define what talent is and isn't differently. This girl has tons of skill and aptitude which is very impressive. But she doesn't really look like she enjoys what she's doing at all in any of these clips. Its like these songs are just homework for her or something. Like she no more gives a rats ass about Eddie Van Halen and the music he created than a student writing a history report gives a rats ass about Thomas Edison.

FWIW, I'd be interested to see what she plays when the camera is off and no one is watching. I'd like to see what she plays when she wants to play for her own enjoyment and nothing more. That's the clip I want to see. I'd also like to see her play her own music instead of someone elses. Covers of other people's stuff is fun and all, but Eddie VH and Steve Vai didn't get where they are by playing covers.

Why do you think this girl got this good by playing covers? She got good enough by practicing everyday so she could play the covers. Modify message

I think the bored or unengaged look she has makes it look like these challenging pieces are just child's play for her.

Look Solitary. I really like you and I can bet everyone else on here really likes you too, but you have to cool off. Just because something says something that you didn't understand doesn't mean they have a conflicting opinion or they are arguing with you. Johan said it wasn't worth discussing. That wasn't an insult to you. It just meant that he felt like it wasn't on topic.

Half the time you post something no one knows what you are talking about. I mean... look at the thing you just posted. It is very difficult for us to know what you are saying a lot of the time and you have to cut us some slack, like if Johan thought Joan Jett was part of this thread's topic. This isn't the first time you knee-jerked into a fit because you thought people were arguing with you.... and no, I do not want to bring those other threads.

Seriously, Solitary... calm down and try to think before you type. Please. Just try.

Solitary

TELL HIM TO CALM DOWN! I'm not the one who got upset and went crying to staff. What the hell do you mean I'm not understood. Me---Here is the actual twitter response she made, and I don't see motherfucker anywhere. Duh! Jerk---You are correct, I was mistaken. Point still stands and is still every bit as valid. POINT STILL STANDS MEANING WHAT?

Jerk---I get that you don't like that she was fired over this and that you think it isn't fair. Life isn't always fair. About that only advice I can offer is that you should probably not consider a career as a teacher.  THAT'S NOT BEING A JERK---RIGHT! And it's my fault that he keeps nit picking, and even covers up when he wrong with platitudes , because he is so innocent. Your right, he isn't a jerk, he's a choir boy that got butt hurt.  :butt: :kidra:

Look man, I can say with 100% certainty that you are not making any sense, And you're just making it worse. Clearly you're angry about something, I'm not certain what besides the miscommunication, so I'm telling you as hopefully a friend, to get up and walk away from the PC and cool off. I agree with Pickel, I like you, and I'd really like to avoid making this hole any deeper than it already is

PickelledEggs

No one cried to the staff. No one reported anything. No one even told me to jump in, Solitary. I am telling you, as a friend and someone that likes you that you need to cool off a bit.

The only reason I knew to speak up is because this thread interested me from the start because I like good, rocking music and when someone at such a young age can play better than most adult musicians I know, that is also of my interest because I think it's cool.

At this point I don't even have a clue of what you are talking about anymore...

Please. I am asking you kindly. Can you please drop it and move on from whatever argument you think you're in?

Solitary

This is a quote made by him, not me:
Quote"Covers of other people's stuff is fun and all, but Eddie VH and Steve Vai didn't get where they are by playing covers."
He's is wrong and that is the point I'm making. I still don't see what his point was. If he thinks  Eddie, Steve, and Vai don't play covers like the girl does he is wrong.

"Celluloid Heroes," from the The Kinks album "Everybody's in Show-Biz", was covered on the Steve Vai album "The Elusive Light and Sound, Volume 1."

"Fire," from the Jimi Hendrix album "Are You Experienced", was covered on the Steve Vai album "Live in London."

"Little Wing," from the Jimi Hendrix album "Axis Bold as Love", was covered on the Steve
Vai album "Live in London."

"Shyboy," from the David Lee Roth album "The Best", was covered on the Steve Vai album "Live at the Astoria London."

"The Attitude Song," from the Steve Vai album "G3: Live in Concert" , was covered on the Richard Kendrick album "Lords of Karma - A Tribute to Vai, Satriani."

"Tender Surrender," from the Steve Vai album "Archives, Volume 1: The 7th Song" , was covered on the Tony Janflone Jr album "Lords of Karma - A Tribute to Vai, Satriani."

And if he thinks girls can't play Rock & Roll, or you guys don't---you figure it out what that makes you.  :kidra: :butt:
There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.

Johan

Holy mother of fuck. Solitary I am sorry. I did not intend to argue with you nor piss you off as I obviously have. I am sorry. I don't know if anyone reported anything to staff but I certainly did not. I'm sorry you think I did but that's not how I roll generally.

I do find it kind of comical that you put Joan Jett in the title and then ask me why the fuck I tried to bring her into this thread as though that was my fault. That's a good one right there. Absolutely comical that one. I'm not a fan of Ms Jett so shocking as it may seem, I don't follow her every little move. So yeah I had no earthly idea why her name being in the thread title is at all relevant to the topic. Still don't. Nor do I really care so I'm willing to let it go if you are.

The covers thing? I didn't say Eddie and the others never played covers, nor did I mean that. I'm well aware that most every musician plays covers while learning the craft. What I meant by that comment was that playing covers is not how any of the previously mentioned rock gods  achieved fame. Its not what they became known for. They are all known for original compositions. Yep I know the all still do covers occasionally, but again, none of them are known for being cover musicians. Search wikipedia for any of them and you won't find vast catalogs of cover material listed.

And just as playing an instrument takes years to master, writing also takes gobs of practice and years to master. Writing skills are what separates the world class from the so so for me. Perhaps not for you, but we're all entitled to our own tastes and musicians who only do covers simply don't appeal to me. So yeah like I said, I'd like to hear her create her own music. If she's got that much technical skill now and she also started writing now at her young age, she could really end up a force to reckoned with by the time she reaches adulthood IMO. That's ALL I was trying to say. Once again, holy mother of fuck. This is why I said not worth it.

Sorry you think I have something against you. I don't. Sorry you think I was looking to pick a fight with you. I wasn't. And finally, sorry I caused you to go off the deep end there.  That absolutely wasn't my intention. I understand that you think I'm asshole. You're not the first, you won't be the last. FWIW, I don't think the same about you. I like you and I value your many contributions here. Sorry I keep ending up pushing your buttons. I'll try to be more aware that you them and just leave you alone in the future.  Holy mother of fuck.
