North fork of the Duchesne river. Facing South. The dark line across the stream is an old beaver dam. We go here twice a year, a place that somehow hasn't been discovered yet. Found it 4 years ago. About 100 miles from my house.

They call this area castle country because of the rock formations.

The Aspens are starting to turn for autumn.

This little guy was my companion while I prepared meals or read. He thinks he's hiding from me.

My Rat Terrier, that I keep on a tether, kept chasing him up a tree and into his burrow. He retaliated by eating my dog's food when he wasn't there. I kept still whenever he came by, so he actually would run right between my legs to get to the bowl. He was so persistent I named him Assiduous T. Munk. Brave little guy.

Same river, facing North at sunrise. You have the shadow of one castle on the face of another.

This is Goosefoot, or Mountain Violet

Shot taken on the way home. The mountains are the Uintah Mountains East of Salt Lake. This is the high country of Utah. Many days of my life have been spent here.

In the words of John Muir:

Quote"Come to the woods, for here is rest. There is no repose like that of the green deep woods. Here grow the wallflower and the violet. The squirrel will come and sit upon your knee, the logcock will wake you in the morning. Sleep in forgetfulness of all ill. Of all the upness accessible to mortals, there is no upness comparable to the mountains."

And again:

Quote"Walk away quietly in any direction and taste the freedom of the mountaineer. Camp out among the grasses and gentians of glacial meadows, in craggy garden nooks full of nature's darlings. Climb the mountains and get their good tidings, Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. As age comes on, one source of enjoyment after another is closed, but nature's sources never fail."

There is nothing more beautiful, more pure than nature in its untouched and unblemished state. I cannot see a life where I was never to walk in the silence or the stillness of a mountain meadow or see the unimaginable and indescribable beauty of the smallest and the largest of things. This is spiritual, this is beautiful. This is where, if the divine exists, we will meet it and experience it. I will always go there, until I am unable to. For without that beauty and tranquility, I would wish no life. My words. Not John Muir.
