QuoteHelt moved to Los Angeles and lived on the streets while trying to find work as a model.

He gained worldwide attention Sunday when Cyrus let him accept her award for video of the year. Helt, who met Cyrus through the Hollywood homeless center My Friend's Place, used the platform to call attention to the issue of youth homelessness.

"I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost, and scared for their lives right now," Helt said. "I know this because I am one of these people."
SmOn I don't know if being scared is as bad as being insecure and lonely to the max. If I hadn't met a bunch of guys (all black) in a gang, called the Tuffs sic,  when I was on the streets in Washington DC when 14-15, I don't think I would have survived because they taught me how to do it without money with petty crimes, that can get you shot by police now. They are all dead now, or in prison---I'm white, and if it wasn't for my wife, a Catholic, and a married Christian family that took me in at the time, I would be in prison or dead now also. I hate organized religion, but I don't hate any Christian that helps people when they are in need. If that's a problem with anyone here---FUCK YOU! Solitary
There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.

It's the organization I despise, not the individual church members. I've been helped by plenty of pious people who asked nothing in return. It doesn't even bother me to much when they offer to pray for me. I just look at it with indifference, but it doesn't change the fact that plenty of the pious actually care about their fellow human beings.
Sad thing is a lot of homeless shelters require ID or proof of age over 18. I remember being turned away from a few as a kid, but some took me in. At 17 I got a job at a Salvation Army shelter in Montana as a cook. I had my own room and all till some dipshit told them the police were looking for me which at the time was a lie, but police were called and I was taken to the JDC for being an underage runaway then returned to the job corps center I had been at.. I can't blame the SA for it, but kind of wish I could have found out who told them police were looking for me. Back then though I would have become violent and the police would have been looking for me..  As it turned out all ended well..
All hail my new signature!

Admit it. You're secretly green with envy.

I've often said it, if the church consisted of people who extend their hand to help the poor, homeless and starving, and use the structures they build to help them, and in no means force faith on those in need rather just help them, then I'm all for what they do, I'd even lend a hand to them.
So often you hear horror stories of religious organizations who pose as something extending its hand to help the poor and vulnerable, when in truth behind closed doors they do terrible things to these people.

If christianity consisted of more people like the vicar of dibley then I'd be inclined to help, even being atheist. But sadly the church is rarely like this.
