Never mind Cosmos, it's old stuff, even dated stuff that might be no longer the concensus in the physics community... not really worth the watching.

OTOH, we are making progress.

QuoteThe going theory among cosmologists is that the universe will eventually rip itself to shreds owing to its ever-accelerating rate of expansion. Not so, say a pair of physicists who have just taken it upon themselves to reformulate an integral facet of general relativity: the cosmological constant.

Here's the original paper

Shiranu

If you are referring to the newer Cosmos... I don't think they ever mentioned the Big Crunch. Infact he hinted on some other theories about how the universe was formed and how many other universes there may be.

I personally am not a huge fan of the Big Crunch theory though. There have been other theories that seem more plausible to me. Until we have the tech to really know though... cant do much but go on probabilities and reasoning.

No surprise there as the BIG CRUNCH was never a favotite. However, this new published paper might turn this around.

The Multiverse has been around for at least 15 years. As I said, this is old stuff.

I'm afraid that the physics community doesn't function on what's popular or not, but rather on the latest data.
