Yeah, and people are praising god once again for the work of science. Go figure.
I wouldn't exactly called it a cure. They still have HIV in their bloodstreams. But it dramatically reduces the amount of medication they require. That's good. Not a cure, but very good.

Yeah, but every year...almost every month it seems now, we're getting closer and closer to a cure. A cure for HIV is not an unreachable fantasy anymore, it's something that seems so palpable that you can just grab it. That's what I get from stories like this, anyways.
And when it is finally cured, we can say "God sent AIDS to punish the gays, science defeats God."

I honestly feel like we can say that already. At the very least we have successfully defied him, which calls his omnipotence into question.

I wish it were so, but the religious will say "God inspired the scientists to find a cure for this horrible disease". When you bring up their earlier point of "AIDS is God's punishment for gays" they will claim they never said that, even if you show them concrete proof they'll find some way to twist it...."God punished the gays with AIDS, then he inspired scientists to find a cure so he could get more glory". They're all so predictable that way.
He only created AIDS to give the scientists a goal to work toward. (Never mind the millions who died painful deaths along the way.)

Whenever people say this, I feel like wanting to punch their faces real hard.
I am damn glad to see progress on any and all diseases. I won't cry if those who retard science get infected and no one elects to be with them and/or cure them.
I would love to see this horrific disease stamped out of the face of the earth. Glad to see progress being made.

Some of the better articles refer to it as a "functional cure." I'm interested to see if it remains suppressed for life or if some strains are able to mutate around the suppression. Functional cure is better than no cure though.
We've already schooled God on any number of his other 'plagues'. Smallpox? Fucked up. Polio? Destroyed.... until Muslims started scaring people by saying shit like "It's a potion that will sterlize we true believers!" and so polio spread again throughout Africa.
But if a cure does surface in the near future, I am going to rage like Hell at people shoving God into this. They don't seem to realize just how wicked what they will say is.
