Title: On Rules
Post by: witness1615 on February 23, 2015, 09:59:59 AM
Hey, I have a question,
Why are there rules to this forum?
Thanks

Because we get people on here that do disruptive things like attacking people for no good reason and doing things like proselyting their beliefs. Just like in society, there are rules to keep order.

Rules here are a guide or principle for governing action, like keeping condescending jerks from thinking only religion has rules from proselytizing here, and self righteous jerks that think they are better than atheists because they aren't . Solitary

Because some people choose to not introduce themselves properly and instead make their first own threads outside of the introductionary subsection, for example to ask questions, before we know anything about them.

Atheism has one rule. Lack of belief in god. Everything else is up for debate.

ooh, getting right to the passive-aggressive meta-debate! THAT's not going to annoy anyone.. lol.

Witness, if you have a question or a point, just state it. Asking leading questions is just too obvious, man.

Please do an intro thread like we expect you to do. We like to know what we are dealing with when people come here.

Informal debates are just that, informal.  People will interrupt and butt in every so often.   It will feel like you're being tag teamed.

My advice is be respectful and don't assume we know anything at all about what you believe or why you believe it.   We'll ask for a lot of clarification and references.

We've also got a handy flow chart knocking around here about how a basic debate works.  I'll dig it out.

It's a social agreement.  We like talking about stuff, and to do that we abide by a certain set of rules worked out amongst ourselves. It makes the exchange of ideas easier.

We have already answered your questions.

For "why do we have rules on our forum", it's so members can get along better. It is easier when people have rules and guidelines to go by and guide them on how to converse and act towards each other, but stromboli already gave you that answer. Are you not accepting that answer? or do you need it reworded a few more ways?

One of our rules is no spamming. Which it seems like you are doing to our debate section with a nonsense thread that features a question that you don't seem to care what the answer is.... and then you ask the same question with different words over and over again. You're at ten btw. I'm going to check your other posts to see if I need to boot you.

I think it's asking the question because it doesn't have a clue what an atheist is.

The fellow was a young earth creationist. I suspect he may have been a home schooled or religious school grad who'd grown up and continues to live within an insular christian community and hasn't the foggiest idea what other people are like. Hence why he starts out with the idiotic notion that atheist having rules is somehow confusing, because how can you have rules without god?

We could have educated him, but I doubt he would have listened and I don't have the patience for such idiots anymore. They want to live cut off from the world, they can stay the fuck away from us.

The answer is obvious... even Satan and his ultimate powers need to have rules for posting on an internet forum... it's in the babble somewhere.

QuoteWe get pretty mad and defensive when truth is spoken to us. It pricks our conscious, and limits our freedom to do what we want. But there's more to it than that. Why are people so inclined to spew their hate at those who still uphold the truth?

The truth this idiot is talking about is The Word Of God. "Limits their freedom", just like rules do!  :butt: :police:

no kidding... in their minds, the debate goes like this:

troll: "Do you rape your mother?"
AF: "uh, what does that have to do with anything?"
troll: "see, i knew atheists were dishonest mother-rapers that cant even answer a simple moral question!"
AF: "uh, okay, then.. no, i dont rape my mother."
troll: "HA! morals can only come from G-D, so in admitting that you dont rape your mother, you just admitted that god exists and that you get your morals from Christianity! I WIN!!!!"

i've seen that juvenile line of questioning a million times. Hell, i probably used it myself when i was a kid.
