Title: How About Them Oscars?
Post by: Bobby_Ouroborus on February 25, 2013, 02:37:20 PM
Ok. I really didn't get to see the show but I heard on Access Hollywood that it was a pretty good show.

Did anyone here actually see it? Or have we all forgotten how to give a shit about self-important people patting themselves on the back?

Seth mcFarlane was the host and naturally didn't pull his punches in taking the piss out of Hollywood (which has its head so far up its ass most Of the actors probably think shit is a 3star Michelin meal).

Personally I thought the jokes crude but they were crude for a reason, in that the humourless people who make up he academy only understand that type of humour and they hate it (they loveAdam sandler, though. Game set and match).

I like it when people are made uncomfortable by stuff like this because it proves they take themselves too seriously.

On another note, his presenting was almost universally panned by critics who show through their writing they dont understand satire, sarcasm or wit (many accused him of being sexist whereas in fact he was taking the Piss out if misogynists like Chris Brown).

I thought Seth was hysterical and far more talents than I knew he was!  Loved it.
Anne Hathaway - ahhh....... that made me happy !!!

There were oscars? I had no idea.

I didn't watch, but I find it funny the these awards people keep hiring irreverent comedians like McFarlane and Ricky Gervaise, and then having a hissy fit when they act exactly like we all know they will.

I'm glad Hathaway won supporting actress, other than that, I couldn't give 2 craps about the Oscars this year, really.

My favorite part was when Seth MacFarlene himself acknowledged how shitty Ted was.

I liked Ted. It was the quintessential love story between two bros. Man/bear love does not get  any deeper.

Actually I was hoping that McFarlene would have said something to offend the God crowd since he is the first openly atheistic host they have had as far as I remember.

How about the Oscars, huh? Have people forgotten about the Fatty Arbuckle scandal yet?

If he'd done that, he'd probably also be the last one they'll ever have.

I had to look up Seth McFarlene on Wikipedia.  Even then, he wasn't someone I recognized.  I watched the Academy Awards once a few years ago.  It was somewhat interesting, I suppose.  People sure get into it.  They start talking about it two months before the event, and set aside that evening on their calendars.  But I like my own rating system better.  I give awards to best picture and actor, but sometimes I don't bother.  I don't care who wins Best Audio Mixer.  I don't ever give out awards for that.

I was happy to hear that Christoph Waltz and Q. Tarantino got their Oscars.

Waltz got best supporting actor last year too.  Tarantino seems to have a knack for writing script that no one but Waltz could do as well.  He's really good at that kind of over the top prankster con man.  He's fun to watch.

How long was it before he mugged for the camera and did a stupid voice?  How long before he confused pop culture references with parody? How long before he  said something like "that reminds me of when a court sentenced me to mow Mr. T's lawn." then cut away to McFarlane mowing Mr. T's lawn as T. watches, sips lemonade and says "I pitty the foo' who don't edge"?

Seriously, that cat strikes the same annoying chords as Adam Sander.

Did he acknowledge how shitty "The Family Guy"/ "American Dad" [sup:2pg1ur3p]1[/sup:2pg1ur3p] was/is/will forever be?

[sup:2pg1ur3p]1[/sup:2pg1ur3p]The Rick Copeland has never watched "The Cleveland Show" as even people he knows who mysteriously like "The Family Guy" and the even worse "American Dad" say it sucks...

Adam Sandler has a star on the "Walk of Fame." That alone tells me how shallow and phony the whole hollywood circus is. I don't watch anything McFarlane puts out because it is tasteless and pointless.

And I'm no fan of Tarantino because I have been a fan of Asian cinema longer than he has been alive, and I know where he got all of his ideas from. Reservoir Dogs is a direct ripoff of "City of Fire", for example. Inglorious Bastards is also a remake of a better movie.

Gervais is openly atheist and very outspoken about it..

Agreed, I almost want to go back and watch Basterds again even though i didn't care for it past the first two chapters, just to watch him act.

Watching a tree die from dry rot is more exciting than 'The Oscars' formerly known as the Academy Awards..

Somewhere along the way they went from a staid and politely humorous formal presentation with Bob Hope to a "let's get happy and controversial" mode. Starting with Whoopi Goldberg, I think. She got all controversial and since then there have been a string of people to make it different. In any case, it is a bunch of people patting themselves on the back, so I don't give it much credence.

It's a 'Let's nominate and award US and largely ignore everyone else w?o makes better movies' show.. 99.99999% fluff, .000001% substance..
