QuoteBible Belt leads the nation in consumption of gay porn

Folks in the Bible Belt watch more gay pornography than anywhere else in the nation according to new numbers released by Pornhub, one of the world’s biggest porn sites.
Pornhub reports that the majority of states with a high percentage of gay viewers is in the South. According to the numbers, Mississippi, Louisiana and Georgia lead the South in gay porn consumption, and the state with the highest percentage of gay porn viewers in the nation is Mississippi at 5.6%.

Alaska, Montana, North Dakota and Idaho have the lowest percentage of gay porn users, all below the 3% mark.
BuzzFeed reports Pornhub discovered that every single state in the South watches porn at a higher percentage than the average of states where gay marriage is legal.
For states that have legalized gay marriage, the top three consumers of gay porn are Hawaii, New York, and California.
Multiple reports indicate similar findings concerning the Bible Belt’s voracious consumption of pornography. One can only speculate on the connection between the consumption of porn and professed conservative Christian values.
Pornhub is one of the world’s biggest porn sites with over 35 million daily users.

Presumably that's why God sends all them tornadoes through there....

The bible belt rednecks don't consider it gay unless the balls touch.

This can be accounted for by the high abundance of Baptists in the Bible Belt.  But you see, they're only visiting gay porn sights to remind themselves of the inherent evil involved in gay sex.  They are preoccupied with looking at it no matter how revolting it is to them when they use it to masturbate.  Then they talk about how disgusted they are with themselves the next time they go to church.  They insist that they masturbate to gay porn for research purposes only.

Well, they have to keep an eye on those confounded gays, don't they. Can't be judgmental if they do see what they're a-doin'.

I think I posted this a long while back and skeletal brought up a really good point.

If you think about it, porn is, for a very large portion of the bible belt's gay community, it's only outlet for sexuality. Rightfully so, a lot of the people that live there feel like they would be demonized.

yeah. when your living in such a sexually repressed place, with no bars, clubs, stores, cafes, or even meeting areas for gay men and women, being online is the only outlet people have for sexual gratification. We are animals still, and need an outlet for that.

Silly me, I thought gays had like secret handshakes and an underground network of gay clubs and shit.

I do have a serious question though. Is there really such thing as a "gaydar" like when gay people can tell if another person is gay? I don't mean to be offensive, if it is offensive, but I always wondered about that.

It's a good question to ask, but difficult to answer without getting into stereotypes.  I guess it would be easier to identify a 'scene' person than a 'non-scene' person.  There are people who are into the whole lifestyle thing, who you can pick out a mile away, and others who you'd never tell one way or the other...  Ian Thorpe came out a few weeks back and generally nobody had a clue, other than the usual suspects who always claim to have known all along, regardless of the topic....

I asked my gay friend about gaydar, and he just smiled. Maybe they are telepathic.

There have been studies on this.  It's pretty hit and miss, though.

I took a sociology class in college in the early 60s, and the professor was talking about homosexuality.  He sounded authoritative enough, but I remember wondering if he was actually an authority.  He said that gays did things and wore things that helped them identify each other in nightclubs and places where gays might hang out, things that were not that apparent to outsiders.  One supposed identifier was heavy framed black glasses, which made everyone laugh, because that was exactly the kind of glasses the professor was wearing.  But in the late 50's and early 60's heavy black framed glasses were the in thing.  I wore them, as did a lot of others, and I thought they were cool.  Later, thinner wire framed glasses took over as the predominant style.  At any rate, I wondered about the secret identifiers.  Some guys do strike me as gay, however.

In the early 70's I was back on campus getting my Master's degree and hanging out with the psychology majors.  The gay movement was just getting underway, and it was fashionable to accuse each other as being latent homosexuals for even suspecting a guy was gay.  Someone would suggest that someone might be gay, and all eyes would turn on that person, and someone would suggest that such a rush to judgment was a dead give-away to "latent" homosexuality.  The point, of course, was "don't rush to judgment," which is probably a good rule of thumb, but I have to admit that sometimes someone will strike me as gay.

Later in the 70s, I was working at a university, I had several good friends who were openly gay, and I got to know several other gay people when we met with leaders in the gay community on campus.  Some were total surprises, others no surprise at all.  One of my closest friends confided to me that he was gay one day, but I had already suspected.  Actually, he was bisexual, but he called it "gay".  My boss was gay, but I worked with her for two years before I found out.

I had an intimate relationship with a woman one time, and after we broke up, she started going with a woman.  That was a surprise.  At first, I thought, "Did I do that to her?"  But then I decided, it probably didn't have anything to do with me.

So who's gay?  It's great fun guessing.  Just don't be too sure your gaydar is as good as you think.  So how do you gay guys hook up?  I suppose it's easier nowadays, but back in the early 60's, I think it might have been a sometimes dangerous endeavor, unless you lived in  San Francisco or some place like that.

Ok, I kind of feel like an idiot for bringing that up. I didn't want to get in to stereotypes and was mostly talking about people like my friend. I would never know he was gay if he didn't have a husband. Not that it matters to me that he's gay, I was just curious how people that aren't obviously and stereotypically gay find each other. I guess it has a lot do do with meet up spots and dating sites more than anything.

Well I can tell you that Atlanta has a high gay population so that might explain Georgia's number.  IDK what the fuck is going on with Mississippi though :O

I think it's just having awareness. I've meet gay men before in work or college or bars who I'd not have realised was gay. My bf (one of them) is a very straight acting guy with an often sullen attitude, so you'd not guess he was until I'm snogging him.

Yeah some guys are either just better at "hiding" it and others are just so flamboyant that you would have to be blind not to tell.  In my experience guys who are bottoms are usually easier to detect as gay while with tops its harder to tell, but I just have straight guy gaydar so my detection might be weaker.
