This is not easy to watch or listen to.
That is seriously fucked up. Thankfully, the kid has a way out (lots of strangers stepped up tp help him). Even in 2014, the way things are now, who the hell would choose to be gay considering how much backlash and discrimination you will still face? This cannot be a choice, or not purely a choice. There may be posers like Madonna who pretend for a moment to be "cool", but the people I know who are gay, even in California where they are well protected, still have to look over their shoulders.
I grew up in a household like that kid's, where the "word of god" was all you needed. It is a good thing I am hard-wired to be straight. But even that has a lot of landmines. Oh, you like girls? Think about them? Get horny? You're going to hell for the "sin that cannot be forgiven."
We need to evolve a bit more.

This will be the toughest time of his life, he could become suicidal cause of this. I hope he'll find a new home, and new family who not only tolerate him but fully accept and celebrate him. As a child of a narcissistic parent, this only affirms my belief that family is not always blood, family is not always the one who gave birth to you. We ourselves define who our families are. If our so called family won't accept us for what we are, then we need to let them go and seek new family.

Your right StupidWiz, family is not always blood. I've made the argument often, we can't choose our relatives, but we can choose family. My boyfriend hated his father, who never gave him anything and was happy to move countries to be away from his influence, despite having to leave his mother behind.
I hope this poor guy had friends who will be there for him :(

I agree the volume could've been better, but i think mibbe the reason the camera is pointed down is he didnt want his god fearing homophobic family to know he was recording them.
The language used against him by his own family is fucking disgraceful and seems like he was assaulted as well, he probably realised what their reaction would be and feared even worse if they knew about the camera.
I think the further away from them he gets the better..

I think this is a cloud with a silver lining. As hard as that was to listen to, it was equally eating to hear how much support he got afterwards. It also sounds like he has a very supportive boyfriend and other friends, so I sincerely hope he comes out all the better for hacking off that tumor that was his "family".
I hate this kind of religious abuse. No one deserves it. I'm glad people put together a fund for him to live off of.

And my hope is, now that Huffpost and hopefully other sites are airing this, that people will see just how deep the level of hate can be amongst the fundies.

Best thing you can do is fake flirt with him saying you want to try to 'convert' him, he'll either show his true colours and attack you leading to him being fired, or at the least meaning you don't have to pretend to be friendly with him.
I had a similar situation when I worked in a chemists years ago, got on well with the team there, then one day sat down eating lunch with a few co workers, mentioned about an ex boyfriend, and one of them turned and said ' oh no, being gays disgusting'.
I didn't hang around her after that and thankfully left the job months later for better one.
One of the more heart rending things that I encountered when I first started to contribute to exmormon forums was how terrible the situation was for mormon youth. One young man, just turned 18, was beaten up by his sister's husband, among other things.
There was a transsexual woman from another country who had converted, and ended up marrying a man who, when finding out her true nature, began brutalizing her and effectively raping her constantly. She finally fled and found a place to live because the country she moved back to was much more tolerant than here.
The oddity is that Lesbian women can hide much more easily than men in Mormonism, because the male centric nature of the religion allows women to be out of the spotlight. The demands on men in terms of missions and constant male interaction does a lot more to expose them than with women.
A good movie I remember seeing was Latter Days (2003) about a young Mormon man and a guy he meets who ends up falling for him, but then the trails he goes through faced with his religion and his sexuality.
If you spot it on Netflix give it a watch.

Allowing gays to legally marry has opened festering sores on the bigots who at one time were willing to share the Earth with others, as long as it was made clear to the others that they were not equal and should not be afforded access to the same constitution that protects straights, rednecks, and the religious. As society becomes more accepting, out come the ministers and politicians to fan the flames and stir the pot for their own shellfish and petty ends.

Yeah, you don't get to be special as a Christian by claiming you invented marriage. Humans have been pairing and mating since before recorded history. I'm sure there was a lot of infidelity going on during the Stone Age, just as there still is in the Christian community today. But the concept of marriage is not dependent on religion. So what do you do if you want to be special when you really haven't done anything worthy of claiming that status?
