Title: New poll: GOP to take the senate in November
Post by: josephpalazzo on March 30, 2014, 02:58:35 PM
It's early in the game, but if you thought things were bad in Washington, think again. If the GOP gains the senate, then Obama will have nothing to do but sign veto after veto on every bill that will be passed by Congress. The US government will be the most dysfunctional government ever. Somalia might look even decent. :hang:

I don't think so. Last election they said the exact same thing.  I read dailykos a lot. They seem to have quite a different opinion and so far have nailed nearly every race they've covered. I certainly hope they don't take it and doubt they will. In 2012 rubes needed 4 seats to win and the punditry decided it was a done deal. Republicans were supposed to control both houses by huge margins,  but now in 2014 they need 6 seats and the same pundits are making the same dire predictions.
It's going to come down to voter turnout. If Democrats vote we win. It's that simple.

Come on, it's only March. It's too early for me to be feeling this pessimistic.

I'm just waiting for the next flood of totally stupid shit to come from Rubes mouths. Certainly women should be beaten for having sex out of wedlock or something even more strange. C'mon rubes,  you know you want to!

Kos tracks this stuff really close so take a gander where the senate sits today as opposed to before the last election. Rubes needed 4 seats, lost 2 despite predictions to the contrary.

Most polls are the tail wagging the dog wishful thinking.

We are,  but Nate Silver, the best political forecast in the land, says so. So beware.

And Nate thinks all politics is data driven. Hint: it's not.

How will I notice the difference?

Since you tend to see politics through the end of a twisted garden hose you probably wouldn't notice at all Jason. :)

I think, that in a dramatic twist of events a third party will take the vote and america will be stunned into actually confronting real issues.

I can only wish, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

A third party might be good or might be catastrophic depending on the views they espoused. A nazi party might be construed as a third party, so would communists. Libertarians are rubes-lite.

I said it before.  If people voted what they believe instead of holding their noses while voting for the lesser of two evils, this country could have an entirely different two party system with the Greens debating the Libertarians.

Only if you don't know what libertarians stand for.  Many novices in politics mistake libertarians for their first and oldest opponents.

Ask the pollsters when I'm going to make a million dollars.

well Jason, if libertarians don't want to be associated with the dregs of rubes they need to make that clear to the voting public and so far have done a really shitty job of it. The public perception is libertarians are tied at the hip with the tea party. That's not the fault of the Democratic party.

Of course there's a perception that we're close to the Tea Party - it was ours before the Republicans took it from us.  The 2007-2008 Tea Party was ours.  The 2009 onward Tea Party wasn't.

The Republicans want to forget the libertarian roots of the Tea Party.  And the Libertarians say "it is no longer ours, we no longer have much in common with it."  But while the Democrats want to forget that it existed in 2008, they also want to remember that it started libertarian.  It is a self-contradictory position, but that's never bothered major party players.

I hate to break the bad news Jason. I know it's heartbreaking and we'll both sob into our pillows for years and years, but....Neither of us are major party players.

Another reason I don't buy the pundits when it comes to election predictions of rubes running the table. They simply don't have the poling numbers to back up the talk.
