Getting scraped to the bone with sea shells is a bad way to go. Just think how far back misogynist with support of the Sacraments have left the world intellectually throughout history, and still do. But then again there are some really dumb women now doing the same to their own kind by their ignorance. Can you guess who they are?    Solitary

Thanks for bringing this heroine to my attention.   :-D   Seems like she is right up there with Giordano Bruno and other atheist saints.  If atheists had saints anyway.  #-o

A woman ahead of her time. Rachel Weisz portrayed her in the movie "Agora". My daughter, a successful woman in her own right, admired her and saw her as a role model. Thank you for this entry.

It is good, but not great. But good. It would be beneficial to watch and try to push on other people. A pretty good guess at what the times were like for early jews and x-ians struggling for power at that time. Good slam against the ignorance of religion but still not a great movie. But still a good movie.......okay..a pretty good movie.

Pretty much my take on the movie. It does show the nefarious nature of early christians. From wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agora_(film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agora_(film))
QuoteMeanwhile, social unrest begins challenging the Roman rule of the city as Pagans and Christians come into conflict. When the Christians start defiling the statues of the pagan gods, the pagans, including Orestes and Hypatia's father, ambush the Christians to squash their rising influence. However, in the ensuing battle, the pagans unexpectedly find themselves outnumbered by a large Christian mob. Hypatia's father is gravely injured and Hypatia and the pagans take refuge in the Library of the Serapeum. The Christian siege of the library ends when an envoy of the Roman Emperor declares that the pagans are pardoned, however the Christians shall be allowed to enter the library and do with it what they please. Hypatia and the pagans flee, trying to save the most important scrolls, before the Christians overtake the library and destroy its contents. Davus chooses to join the Christian forces. He later returns with a gladius and starts sexually assaulting her, but quickly begins to sob and offers his sword to her. However, she removes his slave collar and tells him he is free.

The focus is that it was the christians who destroyed the writings of early scholars, that were lost forever because of their religious zealotry. Probably not that popular among christian audiences. Hypatia is someone we should teach about in school, to show the role of women in philosophy and science.

I thought this would be a thread about Hyapatia Lee, a semi hot porn star from the 80s.

I think I'll just go back to sleep now.

The movie is worth watching as it shows the violent transition from a Hellenistic society to Christianity. It makes us question areas around the globe today where people are forced into accepting a religion for safety's sake. How many people, in the world today, live under this pretext. That also includes the western democracies. Damn you religion :(
