Really not a fan of cats, mainly because they scratch my car and kill billions of birds needlessly.

That said, grumpy cat makes laugh, as does lil bub.

Are you shitting me? Dogs get everything, including the label mans best friend. I think the internet cat thing is because a large portion of people who do not own a cat, and are only familiar with dog behavior, are bemused and amused by the bizzarro world of cats. Those of us who own and love cats, and already know them to be superior to dogs in many ways, just love to watch the antics of OTHER cats.

Cats are clearly much, much cuter, funnier, and crazier than dogs. Most people are just unwilling to admit it! :-)

This is so morally wrong! I live right down the road from a place that trains guide dogs for the blind and for other uses. NOTE: You'll never see them walking stupid cats..just smart dogs.

Being ten times cuter than cats,  much more loyal, and way more trainable, they deserve it.

Plus my last 3 dogs could have kicked the CRAP out of 300 stupid cats. At once! :)

Dogs get a lot of love on the internet, too.  Seriously, they really do (//http://imgur.com/r/aww).

It's just that dog people have to go outside more often.  :P

Dogs:

1.  Loyal
2.  Honest
3.  Loving
4.  Trainable/serve others
5.  Water-resistant

Crazier and funner than dogs? You have never met a Jack Russell or Border Collie before then...

It depends on the cat or dog. I've had cats that are great and some not so great, same with dogs, but overall dogs are more reliable and can be trained easier and better.  Fir balls are icky besides. I like both depending on the cat or dog themselves.  Solitary

Ah, thanks guys! You really made my point that dogs actually get way more love and attention than cats, as I knew you would.

I grew up with dogs, not cats. Only as an adult living in an apartment did I learn to love cats. Like most of you, I used to think dogs were far superior. Now I know both have pros and cons, and I love them all. But dogs are, by most people, still considered superior pets.

How often does your cat offer to smell and potentially clean your crotch?

Clearly dogs love us much more.  :-D

all kidding aside: plus one on that. I've never had  a cat hump my leg, and I've never stepped into a cat-turd. Still I love all my friends and neighbor's dogs, because I grew up with both cats and dogs.

As for internet popularity: perhaps cats are a more vertile source of internet comedy due to their indoor parcour-antics. And perhaps we find something funnier to watch when things aren't staged (through doggie-training).

I love all animals. And even more so as they are so much smarter than we are. They never invented religion.
