Minecraft is made of crack cocaine. It's that addictive.
Multiplatform. Sandbox. Java for easy modding. (Oh, fuck, the modding!)
This game has eaten my free time for the past months. So far, its followed the pattern of "doing it to death until my interest receeds," that is repeated for most of my interests.
If I make passing references to punching wood or Herobrine, don't be surprised. :-P
I need to hurry up and buy it for my PC. Xbox one is fun... but online and shit? Yes please.
I just started playing again yesterday. Somehow I missed news of the horse update. Horses and carpet? That's just too much for this guy to handle.

Been playing it for a while too. We should get together online.
Although I have not been playing lately, when I did I went waaay overboard. I built a medieval castle, complete with throne room, kitchens, moat, guard towers, stables, courtyard garden, cells, etc. Nearby I built an entire matching village with a 2 story inn, bakery, mill, farms, houses, etc.
After that I built a theme part of giant animals with elevaters and moving lims and such, surrounded by a HUGE dragon rollercoater complete with flaming mouth entry.
Then I built a wood elf village in some jungle trees...massive tree houses and connecting bridges, ramps and such.
Just before I quit, I built a mushroom village complete with a few "smurfs", lol.
There were more, a few individual projects that never grew ino monstrous size, but I agree, the game is made of crack...
Oh, my hubby just reminded me I made an aquarium, glass tunnels inside a giant water area, filled with squid and light rocks. That was an insane amount of effort for such a simple idea, lol.

I usually play on Nerdcrafteria (mc.nerdfighteria.com). There's a lot of people on there most of the time and it's well moderated.
Look here, in the neighborhood of Neptune, to see the relative size of the Minecraft world (and a lot of other coolness).

Ah, the power of procedural generation :) Not that any computer would ever be able to render all of such a world, but it's amazing to see it work as it does.
my drive to play just receded a few weeks ago. i played with hexxit, oh man so fun. i used to play feed the beast too. but nothing still beats vanilla.
now i just watch lets plays(the mindcrack guys)
I've experimented with the fead the beast mod, which is just outright overwhelming... but it also slowed the game down to a crawl. If I'm picking the game up again I'm sticking to vanilla.
Can't believe I missed this thread. I too am am a minecrafter. We should pick a server and all go minecrafting together. WEEEEEEE
I can't believe they finally added chicken jockeys.
Finally!
I used to play it, but never did more than the usual mob grinders and buildings.
Necrobump aside, the new version 1.8 of Minecraft has me hooked again. I'm playing on the Amenity True Vanilla server. Best community I've experienced so far.
I've been breeding rabbits for food because rabbit stew is, apparently, the best food in the game aside from magical food and weird shit like cakes.
I wish more food in the game was like this. they should nerf regular food so people would have to learn and use recipes for meals that are more substantial.
But rabbits are annoying. They jump a lot. and can sometimes glitch through fences.
But I have figured out a way to breed animals for food and have the babies drop down to a "killing pen" where i dispatch them when they grow up. Unfortunately, the rabbits tend to get stuck on the fences. I should try this with cows and sheep and pigs and chickens, but it may not work with chickens.
