Title: WA to break your 4th Amendment?
Post by: Alaric I on February 19, 2013, 07:57:23 PM
A bill in WA would allow the local Sheriff to enter the home of anyone posessing any gun deemed an assault weapon and check for safe and secure storage.  The bill leaves it up to the Sheriff to decide what is safe and secure.

It won't pass muster.

I find it hard to believe there are people who think this a good idea, but then I realize that there are people who think this is a good idea. Luckily people who think that way are few and far between.

(note: This isn't even about the guns, but about officers just randomly entering your house)

Well reading that the guy who sponsored it now seems to be against it, it is highly doubtful it is.  I just don't see how people even write legislation like this, blantantly going against the constitution.

So why all the hubbub? The cops ought to be allowed to just kick in anyones door any time for whatever they want because you MIGHT be doing something illegal or immoral. Shit! You MIGHT BE posting your private thoughts on a (gulp!) atheist forum! Just think of how that distorts the space time continuum!

As much as I hate gun nutters, this is NOT the way to do it.

No, just checking for safe storage.  If you pass, the law enforcement official fills out a certificate, with your name and date, and a gold colored seal with a ribbon sticking out from under it.  You can frame it and hang it on your wall, or display it on your front door.  If you've done a really good job, you might even get a commendation, and you will be invited to a special banquet as the guest of honor.
