Title: ABBA ROCKS
Post by: Brian37 on July 02, 2013, 04:50:36 PM
Many people give me shit about liking them. But, even before I rediscovered them, another fan obviously with money to pay royalties, started Waterloo Radio a Facebook Radio Station, before I even knew it existed.

Anywho, early last week I suggested they have a rock segment of originals by ABBA that were rock and heavy, and remakes from future artists. Little did I know how many people were influenced on the rock side of ABBA.

"Watch Out" is an original which could have been preformed by KISS and not ABBA.

But I have heard metal versions of "Knowing Me Knowing You" and just now a punk/AC DC mix version of "Super Trouper"

So screw all you guys that give ABBA lip. They have influenced all sorts of music lovers from country to bluegrass to dance to classical and METAL!

I AM ON AN ABBA JIHAD!

They do play this  version on Waterloo Radio. Like I said ABBA has influenced the world of music. This is more techno/rave. But Hillbilly can find links to ABBA being played on banjo. My point is they even influenced metal.

How many albums have you sold? And how many different artists have you influenced to have them go on to do remakes of your songs?

OUCH, so your Barny joke is a "meh, been there done that", like when theists threaten atheists with hell.

I guess it wouldn't do any good to clarify my stance that ABBA...you know...kinda sucks?  :-k

Good, ABBA fans don't want musical wimps in their audience who cant handle diversity in music.

I don't think ABBA "influenced" Nightcore, they just cover everything :P But yeah, they influenced a lot of people. Of course, older musicians in general influence new ones. But still, they did a pretty impressive number. Not really my thing, but definately a major band of recent history.

HOLLY FUCK, where did you find this. It is funny, I was joking that I would die a happy man if Metalica did a thrash version of "Knowing Me Knowing You". Little did I know others had already thought of it. Meaning taking an ABBA song and turning it thrash.

I hate to say this, but I love this version, but as heavy as "ABBA ROCKS" gets, I don't know if this version would make the cut, I would play it, but I don't own Waterloo Radio.

Ahead of it's time. And thanks for the link.

Since I was a teenager in the 1970's, and was witness to them in real time, I am wondering if Brian is just messing with us. :-k I kind of hope so, but a lot of the teenybopper, cheerleader types liked them. To each his own, I guess.

So? I heard a version of the Beatles "Helter Skelter " done by Pat Benatar I thought was better than the original. It is still flattery for someone to look at the past and say "Nice riff/beat, lets see what I can do with it"

I am not messing with anyone, I was 6 years old when "Ring Ring" came out in 74, didn't know about them until the late 7Os at the beginning of the disco revolt, but they were the first band I latched onto.

No I am not messing with anyone. You focus on what mass media did in both selling them and in condemning them, not what their influences and training and talent actually were. They were really more deep and diverse than most give them credit for.

The uploader has a lot more where that came from.  I love it.  Figured he had to have done an ABBA song, and sure enough, he had.   :-D

UGGG! ABBA got stuck with that label, but I am telling you, if you listen to all their songs they were much more than one type. They were classically trained musicians as well.

Thanks. Not just on ABBA though, there was so much bullying and other peoples baggage I took to heart needlessly. But now, like the reaction when people find out I don't believe my reaction is " GET THE FUCK OVER IT"

I love ABBA, and will not make one fucking apology for it.

The good news is they've made great strides in psych meds in the past 30 years. :)

I'd threaten you with a banjo, but then Hillbilly would back you up, so other than water boarding I have nothing, other than a MAJOR FINGER WAG!

Ok, has anyone here heard of or like the "Foo Fighters". I have heard the name but never listened to a song of theirs or album.

BUT, for those who think that ABBA has no inspiration to modern music.

I hate the word "respect". You don't value them, that is fine. I don't expect you to "respect" them.

But when you have Yngwie Malmsteen and the Foo Fighters find influence in them, I'd say you are long on sour grapes and short on evidence.

https://www.facebook.com/foofighters?fref=ts (https://www.facebook.com/foofighters?fref=ts)

8 million plus fans.

Oh and

https://www.facebook.com/ABBA?fref=ts (https://www.facebook.com/ABBA?fref=ts)

2 million ABBA fans just on this one ABBA FB page. That number is sure to grow with Agnetha's new album out and ABBA Gold hitting the top 20 charts once again after it's first release in 92.

Yea you can ignore ABBA all you want, but others, including me, love them.

Cool, then check out Waterloo Radio on Facebook. I is a 24/7 nothing but ABBA radio station including pre and post ABBA music, remakes and even classical versions, and "ABBA Rocks", a suggestion I made they turned into a twice daily segment of hard rock ABBA and metal covers.
