Yes, you read the title right. I'm pretty interested in some of the concepts in the Satanic Bible (allowing indulgence, and seeking revenge against those who have wronged you).
The tabooness and how different it is from most other religions is what attracts me to it. Also, the use of black magic/rituals really intrigues me as well (I want to perform The Thirteen Steps ritual one day).
If I ever convert to LaVeyan Satanism, I'm going to make sure to flaunt my new founded belief around my "family" - as I hate them, so if I piss them off, great. lol
But, seriously, what do you think?
It's just another nut in a can of them.

As evidenced by my profile picture, I have trouble taking Satanism seriously. Spells have as much efficacy as prayers. I think Satanism is born of rebellion and provocation, so if your goal is to antagonize your family you're on the right track.
LeVey wrote the Satanic Bible as a spoof of religion, not as a religion foundational doctrine. .
From the frying pan into the fire. Same religious shit, just different verbiage. It is another form of woo.
If you really want to piss off your family, just come out of the closet.

I think it would pack more of a punch if I told them I'm a Satanist than if I told them I'm agnostic.
And besides there's more to me converting to Satanism besides pissing off people I don't like.
You do you man. It don't work for me.

Missed the point there.
Do it then.

Levay was mocking religion, not promoting a new religion. And yes, there are people who just plain fucking missed the point.

I guess I was one--but I just never looked into it very closely.

I'm all for pissing off family. My mom is a garbage human being.
I actually own the Satanic Bible and I enjoyed reading a bit of it.
Here's the thing about me... When looking for a new religion (I treat them as video games), I always look at how their leaders are. And the truth is, Mr Lavey kinda creeps me out.
I ultimately chose to be an atheist because many atheists in the academic world, folks like Sam Harris, Dawkins, and Hitchens, seem like really awesome people with cool stuff to say.
LeVay is SUPPOSED to be creepy, he's a "satanist". He does/did* like gin and tonics.
*Haven't spoken in a good long while, he died in 1997.

I guess I'm just used to Luciferians portraying Satan/Lucifer as a handsome, blonde human.
I think Aleister Crowley was creepier. 👀

Good point and good catch.
