True. It would have been much better for offer free tuition in trade for time in AmeriCorp, Peace Corp, Habitat for Humanity .... all non-military service. But unfortunately President Obama etc were neo-lib, they only cared about the banks making loans during the big downturn. In return for service, the non-bankruptcy clause would be unnecessary, to protect lenders.
That is regardless if you think a particular course of study was worthwhile or not. In some respects, existing colleges/universities are obsolete with the Internet today. The old model is actually Medieval.
I had just over $100,000 in student loans paid off the day I left grad. school. I knew that would happen before I got the loans, certain parties wanted me to do a job I had done in the Navy, and that was part of the recruitment package.
My wife will be paying on her student loans for another fifteen years.
