Exactly what you'd expect from committed atheists.

Good riddance.

The majority of any demographic are stupid. This includes atheists. And I'm an atheist.

Anyway, if you want to see the real intellectual fortitude of the more 'vocal' users here, just challenge them to a 1vs1 debate in the subforum made for it. They'll probably duck you every single time, but who knows.

I'm sincerely sorry to see you go because I thought you made a lot of well-reasoned comments. We atheists do have the reputation for being overly rational, disagreeable and prickly. I think many atheists enjoy debate and derive satisfaction from winning an argument. It seems like you also like to debate because you take the time to link research articles to support your comments. I don't enjoy arguing or debate but I do appreciate the thought and effort you put into your posts.

Might not agree with everything he said, but I too, like GSOgymrat, am sorry to see him leave.

I didn't even get the impression he was leaving from his post, it seemed more something for an open discussion on the varying constrasts between atheism and religious and the nature of there agreeableness and conscientiousness.

To me personally, I've looked at my natural grown cynicism as the reason why I became atheist, questioning something lets you open it and analysis it, try to work it out, seeing the faults in it. I see that in all belief systems, but same time, I can see that happening in atheism too, because atheism isn't just cutting out religion, there is political values people uphold that shaped around their belief or disbelief, also cultural upbringing, interests, and maybe even someones mental state could play a part in it.

this could have been a good discussion piece. its like my sexuality, just because I'm gay doesn't mean I get on with every other gay person I come in contact with, everyones an individual and I've known some real a-holes in the gay community along with some nice ones I got on with. And even the ones I got on with had views I didn't share like their beliefs.

His introduction included, among other things, his reasoning for why he thought he was smarter than your garden variety atheist. He immediately rubbed me the wrong way. Not that I didn't think his points were necessarily bad or unworthy of discussion, but that's like going into a first date listing all the ways your mother is the worst. Even if I agree with you, the red flags are being raised.

When one decides they are superior to others, they need extreme proof...

I, of course, am.

You have to cooperate with people that are trying to piss you off. It takes two.

Cooperate why?  If you were building something and you carefully measured a space to be 5' and another person said 8', would you average it?
