What makes this even funnier is that they spell Rapping Rappin'

Also, I really can't believe that they said 'nigga'. I mean, shit, I really don't know what to think. They say they don't 'cuss', but they say nigger. They also say that they don't judge and that they're peacefull, but that people who don't believe in what they're saying will go to hell.

I also can't believe that got the word "elucidate" into a rap.

"Word up" - Freestylin'. LAWL

I wouldn't dream of calling any of my black friends, " My Nigga" Good way to lose friends, or get punched in the eye. And as far as gay, using it as a negative adjective, as in "That's gay" is not acceptable. Just because people do it, doesn't make it right. Actually, quite the opposite.

I have to admit sometimes i feel the urge to roll my eyes at black people who throw a fit whenever a white person says nigger.

Probably because they call each other niggers every third sentence. Either a word is offensive or it isn't. Filtering your offense based on the source is its own sort of racism. None of my ancestors were slave owners, so black people don't actually have any legitimate reason to get mad at me but not Tyrone for saying the word.

But they do. Because my skin is white.

It has nothing to do with ancestry. It has to do with the fact that when a white person calls a black person "nigger," there's a whole huge pile of baggage attached to it. Baggage like "I'm better than you," and like "you are no better than an animal," and so on.

My ancestors were busy being shat upon by the British while Americans were fighting over slavery, but that doesn't mean I get to call black people "nigger." Because if I were to do that, it would not be a friendly word. Not at all.

That was... I don't even know what to say.

@nonsensei  I also agree that being offended ONLY by white people when the word "nigga" is being used is it's own sort of racism no matter how you cut it.  I don't use the word myself, because it's just too risky and because I have no desire to use the word.  BUT I would like to say how fascinating it is that it's such a bad word in almost all context, but when it comes to rap... boy you know "nigga" rhymes with orange... and every other fucking word in the dictionary!

This takes me back to a Facebook argument some guy and my friend had, with my Latino friend calling this black guy a nigger and I came in and said "guys lets be cool and stop fighting". However the black guy insulted  by calling me a "fucking pussy ass cracker" and then I countered by saying "fuck you asshole" and 20 mins later he threatening to kill me and my friend and sue us both. I thought that was the end until I met him in real life and he spread lies to my brother and his friends at a gathering and swore he would kill me because he believed I called him a nigger. My brother said before he even talked about me he was displaying bigotry for Asians and Mexicans, and didn't really trust him but got him to calm down and prevent the killing and suing(still wants to beat me up tho).

It's amazing how horrible I'm shunned because I have white skin. I live in South Texas and the Latinos look at me and racist because I'm white and disrespect me and my family even though we are against racism and all that ignorant shit. I've been a loner for many years being tortured by this hell, and when I find other people such as blacks and Asians I'm treated like dirt. I find that one day I will stop caring and turn into a bigot( I won't do, but I'm scared of becoming it) or kill myself. I seen all those documentaries about Martin Luther King and think if life were like he preached, it would be a much merrier world.

Draconic, I don't know if you can pull this off, but what I did growing up was outlandishly claim I could blend in and pass with any group.  I'd tell people I am Chinese or Black, and laugh as their brains shut down since I am the whitest person they have ever seen.  I'd walk up to a group of blacks and ask them how they are doing and if I could spend some time chatting with them.  I have always been seen as weird and a smart ass, but I've always been able to strike a conversation and have no issues (save from other white people).

The one time I really was stung by being called racist was by an interracial couple I knew.  They didn't even think their claim through when I pointed out that if I were really racist then I never would have eaten their food in their home on their dishes.  Why was I consider racist?  I am Southern and it seems that I passed his wife and ignored her when she said hi on the pier after we pulled in from a few weeks at sea.  I never saw her.  I was focused on getting away from the boat and getting to the barracks and having a drink to divert my depression from once again having no one on the pier waiting for me.

So because I have tunnel vision when focused, they deemed me a racist.  To this day I pity them and wish them well, but I won't forget or forgive.  They judged me, and earned judgement from me by their act.

I remember riding the bus one day and there were some black girls in the back talking rather loudly about their boyfriends. Every line was "My nigga" this, and "my nigga" that. I was surprised that they would use this very derogatory word as if it were no big deal, even using it to describe someone that I should think they would have some respect for.  How can it be considered respectful? It's what slave owners said to their black slaves. It's the word that white people have used against blacks for two hundred years of oppression and racism, and now blacks have adopted it as just another thing they say to each other. I don't get the psychology behind this. To me, it's like referring to someone as an asshole in every other sentence, and then claiming it's not really an insult.

I did my student teaching at a predominately black school.  I heard that word no less than 100 times per day.  One day, I'm walking behind a group of students and they are talking about me.  One of them is having a go at me.  Another student interrupts him and says "Mr. G (me), I like that nigga."  Someone else chimes in "yeah, that niggas alright".

For those students, the word had lost any negative connotation and could be used to refer to anyone.   If I were a black teacher and was called that by white students it would have been much different.   I think that is the difference.

OK, here's a good story. I played in a progressive R&B band in the 1980's (The band was called Sizzle)
I was the only white guy in the band. It was in vogue for a while to have a white guy in your funk band, thanks to Prince, Rick James, The Dazz Band, and some others. It was a great experience, and I got to play in some clubs where I normally wouldn't dare set foot in, and was almost always welcomed and treated with respect. One night, we were in the hotel after the show, and something came on the TV about some white guy doing something to some black guy, I don't remember exactly, but one of the guys said something about "fuckin' white people," and I was like, "Hey, I'm sitiing right here, dude." His response was " Nah, man, you ain't white. You just some kind of funky white nigger." I took it as a compliment.

Sorry - touchy subject for me right now. Last week my bi-racial granddaughter cried hard alone in the bathroom at school because a school bully called her a 'nigger'.  She asked the punk what that meant.  She was laughed at and the bully said "cause you're black you idiot".  Was difficult on our family.  We don't use that word although we've heard it used in slang.  But in all honesty I've only heard one black person use that towards another black person and in jest or with affection (like friends).   If it were more common I don't think my grandbaby would have been hurt nor surprised. And it certainly wasn't said to her like a compliment.

maybe someday it will be common..........
but it won't be me that makes that word commonly used.  I've never said that word in my life.  And I wouldn't.

could be my age...

I don't mind when a friend calls me asshole. It can be meant as an insult or it could just be a little friendly trash talk. Nothing wrong with that.

Why shouldn't blacks call eachother nigger? They've taken some of the power out of the word. Why should they let the white racists own the word nigger and the power behind it? Does that sound like a better alternative than how things are now?

Some think of nigger as a terrible word, but language evolves and what matters is intent when using the word. Some women call eachother bitch with no offense intended. Gay, faggot, and retard are perfectly good insults nowadays and don't necessarily have anything to do with homophobia or putting down the mentally handicapped unless that is the intent.

I'm white and I like the word nigger. I grew up listening to Tupac and other stuff like that where the word is used in every song fifteen or twenty times. I barely ever use the word. Maybe a few times a month. I might say "What's going on nigger?" when talking to a friend or "Fuck that nigger" when talking about someone I dislike (could be a white or black person I'm talking about). I view nigger as just another way of saying "dude".

Racists using it pejoratively and non-racists throwing it around casually - is that better than just racists using it?  I suppose.  But yanno, as great as it is to see people exchange volleys of racial epithets, I think this is one of those things that really ought to go out to pasture.

Quick show of hands:  would anyone here mourn over the phasing out of "nigger" in the english language?  I could sweeten the deal by getting rid of whom, blaggard, and jargogle...

Vanilla Ice sends his love.

I watched the video all the way through this time. That may be the most painful two minutes and fifty three seconds of my life. I need a bath.

Quote from: "Nonsensei"I have to admit sometimes i feel the urge to roll my eyes at black people who throw a fit whenever a white person says nigger.

What kind of fucking retarded shit are you talking about? No one in my nuclear family or even my extended family EVER uses the word and most of the blacks I hang out with don't use it either. I only have one friend who does and he's kind of a dick in general. And good luck finding an educated black who uses the word. Seriously, good luck.

It doesn't matter that your family never owned slaves. A racial slur is still a racial slur. My family never owned white slaves so does that mean I can call you honky or cracker. We never owned any female slaves so does that mean I can call Sabrina a cunt? This post is just ridiculous.

Quote from: "wolf39us"That was...

That is essentially what it is. It's an insult. Not a word of respect or friendship. If you were to ask me why many blacks insist on calling their friends this, I really don't have an answer for you. I don't know any whites that call each other honky or any Jews that call each other kike or mongrel.

Quote from: "FaithIsFilth"Why shouldn't blacks call eachother nigger? They've taken some of the power out of the word. Why should they let the white racists own the word nigger and the power behind it? Does that sound like a better alternative than how things are now?
Racists using it pejoratively and non-racists throwing it around casually - is that better than just racists using it?  I suppose.  But yanno, as great as it is to see people exchange volleys of racial epithets, I think this is one of those things that really ought to go out to pasture.

Quick show of hands:  would anyone here mourn over the phasing out of "nigger" in the english language?  I could sweeten the deal by getting rid of whom, blaggard, and jargogle...

QuoteSome think of nigger as a terrible word, but language evolves and what matters is intent when using the word. Some women call eachother bitch with no offense intended. Gay, faggot, and retard are perfectly good insults nowadays and don't necessarily have anything to do with homophobia or putting down the mentally handicapped unless that is the intent.
Ehhh...not too thrilled about those words, either.   :|

Could we? Please?

(except I'd stipulate that I don't really agree with old books like Huck Finn being rewritten............that bothers me enormously)

Quote from: "FaithIsFilth"I don't mind when a friend calls me asshole. It can be meant as an insult or it could just be a little friendly trash talk. Nothing wrong with that.
"Asshole" does not carry the same effect.

It's so incredibly offensive if a white man calls a black man a nigger, yet it's used on a daily basis by many black folks as just a saying for "brother".  Seriously, the word has little effect IF SAID BY A BLACK PERSON (in many cases)... but only under those circumstances.  These are silly requirements and are inherently racist just for the fact that only a black person can use the word.  Should black people be able to use the word?  Only if they're okay with everyone using it!

Indeed, people do call eachother names as "friendly jabs" or just because that's a common word to use.  I also agree, language does evolve... the impact of the words have not been as strong as they were 50 years ago.  The issue is the negative connotation that the words bring... They are meant as INSULTS.  I don't truly see a problem with saying "hey fag, what's up" to my gay friend... he just calls me something random, and we chuckle.  Would I ever use the word on someone else?  NO, fuck that... I don't need to get my ass whooped.

Quote from: "FaithIsFilth"I'm white and I like the word nigger.
My point is that words are just words.  You seem to realize this, but in practice... it's simply not a good idea.  Goto a gay bar and start calling people faggots... see how long you last!

I would not be surprised that within a generation or so that nigger will probably be as an innoccuos saying as...cracker or honkey. Maybe, the younger generation seems to have a better handle on todays idiosynce..idiotcs...id...shit what goin on.

I would never call a gay person faggot or fag. I don't see fag as a term of endearment like nigger can be, although some gays do use the word so maybe it will be seen as more of a term of endearment in the future.  What I was saying is that faggot is fine to use as an insult, and it can now simply mean that you think someone is a clown, rather than putting them down for being homosexual.

I don't use nigger around blacks either, as a matter of respect. Not because I think it would be racist, but if they've been raised being told white folks shouldn't be calling them that or saying it around them, then it is what it is. Some blacks are fine with their white friends using the word around them, but others have a certain mindset because that's how they were raised, so I refrain from using it so I don't cause any unnecessary offence.

I'm smoking a fag at the moment, but I've never had a faggot. I wouldn't mind tasting a faggot once to see if I enjoy it.
