I'm not going to pretend I know much about either French politics or these candidates, but from what I gather, Macron is a centrist and Le Pen is a right-wing populist. What little I have heard about Le Pen has been pretty alarming, like her goal of pulling France out of NATO and the EU (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-39778211) while cozying up to Putin's Russia and apparently seeing nothing wrong with Russian annexation of parts of Ukraine.
As bad as Trump is, he at least had the decency to backtrack his idiotic NATO rhetoric. So essentially, I'm looking at a candidate dumber than Trump and she secured about 35% of the vote. I'm relieved she lost, but jeez, it's a shame that it was ever close to begin with.

DeGaulle was a right-winger ... are you saying he was a traitor to France? He hated the US ... so that should be a positive for some folks. France is completely different from the Anglophone world ... I find them to be a interesting relief from the usual suspects (Casablanca movie).

A modest proposal, ala Jonathan Swift ... France isn't the US. They make new Republics fairly often ... most recently 1968. They simply need a coup, form a new government (as in 1968) and ban all the Muslims and their non-Muslim sympathizers from citizenship. Then as illegal aliens, they can deport all of them to Germany, where Merkel will welcome them with open arms. This won't happen of course, and since I am not French, I don't care if France goes to hell or not. If it did, that would increase the pressure on the US to abandon Nato. It is time the US got rid of its Warsaw Pact. In realpolitik .. your human rights don't count for much.

And their not going to suddenly become civilized and adapt to the western way of life because the countries leader welcomes them in with open arms. Last I checked, the religion of peace had its plans for the west that didn't amount to being good citizens of a country that wasn't sucking allahs cocks.
While I am not opposed to any human beings, as such ... I am a realist as to what ape men are like, and I don't intend to forget that. Keep most of them at more than arms length, unless you can carefully vett them into your circle of family, friends or coworkers. I don't care their ethnicity. Good people are not a problem, bad people are. But be careful of stereotyping ... the Christian neighbor might be more ready to knife you than the Muslim neighbor ... it all depends on the individuals involved. But we also judge people by who they associate with. I would be very careful being close to anyone associated with KKK or anti-Fa for instance.
I pretty much feel the same these days, I don't do large groups, don't bother with bars or big events, kind of follow the Ra's al Ghul outlook that humanity in general sucks, but unlike him, wouldn't look for a solution for that problem. I'll just stick to friends I have, family, and observe it from my own watchtower.

I think you have that wrong. In the US, people would more likely see merit in her position and think atheists might have some good qualities after all. Not everyone of course, but probably half.
