I'm leaving in a couple of hours to drive to the airport to hop a plane to visit family in Chicago for a week. It's something I do most years, and is the only time I spend with family. They keep me busy, sometimes wear me out, even. Not that you guys need to know, or even care, but I just wanted to tell you. I will have access to a computer, and I will be lurking the forum, but I'm not going to bother with my password, won't remember it, and won't be able to post. Have a happy beginning of the holidays, and be nice to each other (it's the holidays, God damn it). :smooch:
Happy American turkey-massacre to you too.
Enjoy the family. And happy holidays.
Spiced apple cider, steamed squash/zucchini, and BBQ ribs.
Ditto
Happy murder the natives day...
Happy genocide day...
This is my dog now. This will also be me after dinner tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving!

Yeah exactly like Islamic Eid.
While I'm proud as no holiday religions have been celebrated in my family for a looong time, I am also a bit jealous about it. :/
I don't do thanksgiving since I don't like most of the food my family makes, got no problem with it as a whole though. ITs become a sort of football holiday anyway.
not my thing
prefer Halloween with sexy costumes <3
Happy drinking day to you as well.

The original reason, was the Civil War, not the Pilgrims. That was Madison Avenue in the 1920s. But still it is about genocide ... N against S.

I was born in the US too, and want to kill the other tribes, just like the Aztecs. Gotta make the Sun come up in the morning!

But if you really cared ... you would go to N Dakota to support the anti-oil pipeline protestors.
Yesterday I saw the President with a turkey. The caption at the bottom of the screen said "Obama pardons thousands of Thanksgiving Turkeys". My thought was "Trump voters?"
You're all turkeys.
White mean, dark meat or giblets?

if i had a sniper rifle yes
We had flying pig.. It was labeled as turkey, but was definitely ham.. Someone (not me) sent a preprepared meal via UPS labeled turkey so it was flying pig as best I can tell.
Personally is every holiday from now till the end of time was cancelled I'd be just fine..
That's the spirit..let's make every holiday into some argumentative political debate. Don't forget the upcoming, never ending war on Christmas..
Traditional people, know how to celebrate, modern people don't.
This is because traditional people are alive, and modern people aren't.
So this alleged meal we had yesterday came from the honey baked ham company..You can quite literally do better at the Dollar General frozen food section for probably less than half the price or less, but the funny thing is after Sylvia called them today about selling flying pig meat as turkey they're still insisting it's turkey. Either someone's lying or something has gone horribly wrong with turkey biology. For the record Honey Baked Ham company is not one I would ever have chosen to do business with if for no other reason than I hate all the sweet shit people try to pass off as 'tasty'.. It's not. Some food just has no fucking business having sugar dumped in or on it.
I had a really great Thanksgiving. Light traffic, so I made record time. Family was great. The food was great. I became BFFs with the family dog after I "accidentally" dropped some turkey scraps in front of him. Visited a park with a bunch of sculptures. Good times.
Almost all holidays are about murder in some form or other. Christmas = saturnalia, which had ritual sacrifice and orgies. Easter = banging a guy up on a cross to die slowly. St Patrick's day = eating leprechauns (substituted with lucky charms).

Valentine's Day, eating something else.
Well that one involves the murder of a guy named Valentine for performing illegal weddings.
Here we have guy fawkes night, which involved the public execution of fawkes.
Huh, THE more you know.
Among the things on the busy itinerary that the relatives had planned for me, I tried out virtual reality demonstrations of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive at Microsoft Store. Wow! Just Wow! The technology is farther along than what I thought it would be. It's quite a dramatic experience, but these were just demonstrations that you could not interact with. They warned me that some people experienced motion sickness with the Oculus Rift, but I didn't experience any negative effects. I see potential down the road. The head gear was not awkward, and the weight wasn't that noticeable in spite of it cumbersome appearance.
Apparently Microsoft is planning some kind of flight Simulator to go with it, but it's not in the works yet. No details were available. It might be some sort of arcade game, rather than an actual flight simulator on the order of Flight Simulator X.
Virtual reality? Will be in use by Israeli military in a few more months:

Not related to the OP? Thanksgiving in the US is a Union Civil War holiday. Soon the boys in blue will be able to shoot down the boys in grey, without leaving their mother's parlor.

I ran into a Native buddy the other day, and after a bit of inconsequential chit-chat I asked him if he'd been keeping up with the goings on in N.D., and he says "Not my tribe." I was a bit taken aback, to say the least.

This is how us uber-Eurpeons conquered them. But first you have to get the Left hand Aztecs fighting the Right hand Aztecs ...

I got a brief jolt from his response too, but I don't know why. Do we jump too soon to the conclude that race trumps all? This is an environmental issue to me. It may be a power struggle to others. Some no doubt see it as a race issue, but I don't think it is.
No it's a power and control issue, as I see it. Those in power can't stand not controlling everything, even the land, air and water that belong to us all. This should be the biggest issue in the country right now, and yet it's barely acknowledged by the lame-stream media - and then they imply that the water protectors are using violence, when the only violence being perpetrated is by the militarized cops.
It's not my tribe either, but then, I have no tribe, except that of humanity.
Personally, I would like to see all these artificial tribal reservations made part of the US and simplify things. There should be an expiration date on old treaties that no longer make sense in the modern world. And, yes, I expect flak on this. But I think the whole Indian tribe thing is a scam and holds them back anyway.

Yes, let's force the Native Americans into something they don't want after we committed mass genocide on them. That seems reasonable.

Not surprising. Towards SGOS response; it's not a matter of race, it's a matter of political and cultural division. They view themselves as Native Americans, but with very different lineages. The closest I can think of would be asking an 1800s Irishman if he cared about the pollution of water in Manchester; they are the same race, speak the same language, practice the same base religion but are vastly different (in someways) culturally and certainly politically and at best have a history of indifference towards one another (if not outright warfare).
The Native Americans are as diverse as Europeans, Africans, Asians. It's only our ignorance that makes them seem like some type of homogeneous group. And in their cultures, religion is almost always the most important thing, so if a different tribe worships different then you, then who cares about them?

I appreciate your POV. Really. But I am looking at this in more historical terms. History has always had some people overrun by others. Take Europe for example. The Cro Magnons pushed the Neanderthals, the Central Asians came in and pushed the Cro Magnons, some group called Picts came in, and They got pushed by Celts and THEY got pushed by Germanic tribes. Meanwhile, the original Greeks got pushed by Macedonians wwho then became Greeks and THEY pushed into Asia (Troy). Then the Phonecians pushed into Italy and became Romans AFTER pushing the Etruscans. Later the new Central Asian (west of Urals) came in and pushed the Anglo/Saxons/Jutes to edges and that caused THEM to push the Celts into Ireland. And then the Franks, Vandals, Visigoths, and Ostrogoths pushed the Romans. The Mongols and Huns Pushed THEM, then the Vikings attacked all over.
Do you see what I'm getting at? They didn't leave behind little weird sovereign tribes. The conquered people just assimilated. And it was GOOD! I think that should happen today with US Indians. Just blend...
