Same thing happens in Israel with Jewish marriages.  The religious divorce is in addition to the civil divorce ... and is sometimes not granted.  Stupid really ... the civil divorce should be enough.  This is what you get when you mix religion and politics.

This. Even proponent of the state of Israel as I am... they do some really fucked up stuff in the name of Judaism. But since they are our allies and do it to themselves and our enemies we just look the other way.

Not dissimilar to Mormon women with temple marriages. They aren't held captive the same way, but by societal and peer pressure to stay married, keep the husband headed to the celestial kingdom kind of pressure. I feel for the women in our society, especially being raised by a single mother who had to deal with Mormon culture her whole life.

Grim, and not confined to Sharia, sadly.

Do the Mormon males indulge in executing their women?

In Islam not indulgent to kill a wife ... if you have three spares ;-)  Islam etc will reform, when women kill husbands first.  Beam film story of Ms Bobbitt to Third World ;-))
