College Professor, Students Sport Yellow Jewish Stars to ‘Protest Islamophobia’ (http://freebeacon.com/issues/college-professor-students-sport-yellow-jewish-stars-protest-islamophobia/)
QuoteA University of San Diego professor and her students have raised eyebrows in the pro-Israel community after they led a protest this week against anti-Muslim rhetoric by wearing yellow Jewish star badges like those used by the Nazi regime during the Holocaust.
Bahar Davary, an Iranian-American associate professor of theology and religious studies at the school, held the protest with her students on Thursday, according to university officials.
While advocating against what they said is a growing trend in anti-Muslim rhetoric, the professor and students wore Jewish stars inscribed with the word, “Muslim.â€
The accessory was deemed insensitive and off base among some in the pro-Israel world and has prompted Davary to defend her decision.
At least 100 students and faculty members on campus have been seen sporting the yellow star badges, according to local reports on the protest.
Davary defended her decision to use the yellow badge, saying through a university spokeswoman that it was not meant to draw an analogy between the Holocaust and the current atmosphere Muslims face.
The symbol is older that you think.
Zunnar (also spelled "zunar" or "zonar"; Arabic: زنار‎ zunÄr) was a distinctive belt or girdle, part of the clothing that Christians in Jerusalem were required to wear in order to differentiate themselves from Muslims.[1] The requirement to wear the zunnar was noted in the Pact of Umar.[1]
See pact of Umar (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pact_of_Umar)
Yes, well victimhood is good business, it is not?
I think it would have been better to wear a cross/star combo instead of the star ... the star is Hindu anyway ;-)
Most Americans should wear dunce caps ... to symbolize the victimhood of ignorance.

Willful ignorance.
If I told a Muslim he was the new Jew, he'd probably take exception to that for a number of reasons.
I think all theists should wear a target over their hearts, but that's just me.

If a Muslim did understand that, he would no longer consider a Jew to be "other".
Don't worry, the non-Jew/non-Muslim folk want to kill both of us ;-( Us old Jews are still around ;-)

Yeah, sure, uh huh, right.

As a non-Jew/non-Muslim, I can say that I don't want to kill you. I may sometimes want to
strangle you, but only metaphorically.

Sorry, Jews have to give up their victim status, they appear to be too well thought of in the US. http://www.pewforum.org/2014/07/16/how-americans-feel-about-religious-groups/

One thing I like about Jews, is that they don't seem to proselytize much.

The existence of the "other" is necessary, otherwise we live lives of delusional confirmation bias and group think.

Correct, in Judaism proselytizing and in-conversion are strictly discouraged if not forbidden. Traditionally, a rabbi is required to dissuade a Gentile three times, to not join Judaism ... and to never ever encourage it. Orthodox Jews will proselytize other Jews .. but not Gentiles.
One reason for this now, vs 2000 years ago ... is the history of forced conversion of Jews to other faiths (by Christians and Muslims mostly). Ethics requires that one not try to impose on others ... what you object being done to you. However Judaism doesn't have a death penalty for those leaving Judaism (unlike Islam and Christianity) ... instead it has a system of forgiveness for those Jews victimized by forced conversion to non-Jewish faiths.
Historically however, the greatest intolerance of Jews to Gentiles .... is toward Christians, because they have done the most genocide. Muslims only forced non-Muslims to pay an extra tax (in lieu of military service). And of course non-Muslims were second class citizens (but this was the norm in all societies back then). The idea of universal citizenship comes from Emperor Caracalla circa 225 CE ... a truly horrible killer ... who expanded Roman citizenship so that all the second class citizens could be taxed more.
As far as Jewish victimization in the US ... this reduced because most Jews gave up all ethnicity and religion as fast as they could after they got to the US. They wanted to be WASPs ... and have mostly achieved that. Jews who insist on public ethnicity or serious religion are still suspected of being un-American ... and well Gentiles think so ... because any ethnicity other than WASP and any religion other than WASP is considered suspect. Same with political-economics.
Unfortunately for Catholics ... their dalliance with pedophiliac priests has ... reminded everyone they are not WASP. The immigration of Mexican Catholics also reminds everyone they are not WASP.
In religion, making the synagogue as much like a Protestant congregation was achieved first in Germany and later in the US ... in the mid-19th century. Jews well know the Japanese saying ... the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.
Unfortunately in Germany/Austria ... the attempt of Jews to assimilate ... excited Germanic xenophobia. Jews were despised when they were ghettoized from the Catholic/Lutheran Gentiles, but were terrifying as assimilated, secular or converted, next door neighbors. Irrational conspiracy theory isn't anything new ... hence fears that Jews are akin to reptilian aliens ... and secretly rule the Earth. If you ask for a demonstration how Jews rule the Earth, and no one can produce evidence, this is taken as proof that the secret is well hidden. Most Jews are just like their Gentile neighbors (unless they are Jewish Orthodox). And Jewish Orthodox folks are like Amish ... really scary! Rothschilds who hang out with European monarchs and Popes ... are not typical of any group.
