Title: Zombie physics: 6 baffling results that just won't die
Post by: josephpalazzo on October 31, 2015, 05:54:13 AM
When a scientific result seems to show something genuinely new, subsequent experiments are supposed to either confirm it â€" triggering a textbook rewrite â€" or show it to be a measurement anomaly or experimental blunder. But some findings seem to remain forever stuck in the middle ground between light and shadow. Even efforts to replicate these results â€" normally science’s equivalent of Valyrian steel (http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Valyrian_steel) â€" have little effect. Welcome to the realm of undead physics.
Ahead of Halloween, Nature guides you through some findings in physics, astronomy and cosmology that researchers have repeatedly left for dead â€" only to find that they keep coming back.

Yes, that one and only one magnetic monopole detected in the 80s.  But undead physics discrepancies is where new theories come from.  Professors (not you of course) engage in pedantry ... they don't want anything new, because then they would have to rewrite their lecture notes ;-)
