What's wrong with eggplants? If I encountered a man with a penis that looked like an eggplant, I wouldn't be offended, I would be sorry for him.

I'm too old for this shit. Better than just straight up dick pics I guess.

Flour, corn meal, egg batter, frying pan- you're done. Purple phallic symbol as a side dish.

This is funny. I'm curious if the colour also has additional effect on the shape being offensive. You know, purple, lol.

I guess I mostly agree with the sentiment and feel like there are definitely many countries in the world where women have it worse. I saw it firsthand in Afghanistan.

Yet some part of me has never liked the idea of trying to prove whose life is worse. If there even is a winner, the winner just gets to claim they have the worst life. Yay.

I don't think anyone can claim things like child marriage and female genital mutilation and lack of suffrage and maternity care for women in the third world isn't bad. But to pretend like sexism in Western countries isn't an issue because much worse stuff happens in Yemen or the DCR definitely deserves one of these:

Don't take it as though I'm suggesting women in the West have it worse, but really, the two situations can't be compared. And if I'm supposed to hold my entire life up to the lens of life in the third world, I'm going to come away looking like an entitled bitch no matter what I do. Like I shouldn't be sad if my grandma dies because children in Syria lost their entire families to Civil War. Or I can't feel stressed about midterm exams because it doesn't compare to the stress of people in South Carolina who have lost everything they have to flooding. Or I shouldn't find social attitudes towards women disappointing because... see above.

Also don't take it as though I think the eggplant thing is actually offensive and just another way of "keeping women down." The eggplant thing is ridiculous. Some people want to be offended, some people feed on sensationalism, and some people love offense baiting. If the eggplant is anything, it's a symbol of trollism.

imo is not about comparing who has it worse, because i also oppose the whole ''hey woman have it worse in rape, but men get more raped in jail and commit suicide more often'' or ''hey you may be gay but you are white you do not know what is to be truly oppresed!!111" I call that the oppression Olympics the one who combines the most marginalized traits gets the most oppression points and you can't argue with his opinions cause it means you are ''denying the lived experience of oppressed minorities"

I think it is about keeping a realistic perspective and realizing that the hyperbolic rhetoric of dehumanization and oppression that is expressed by a privileged high class women with a big platform complaining at the UN about people calling her a liar and that she sucks on the internet and asking for actions to stop this.

Is a fucking joke.

He is pissed that Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian spoke out at the UN against cyber-bullying, which truly should terrify the misogynistic spergs that inhabit the interner because it may lead to an agreement that if you harass a person in another country other than your own over the internet you may be prosecuted in your own. I would like that. The scum that inhabit 4chan would crawl back to whatever basement they came from.

Hilarious how much you lack perspective on the issue. You just called me a sperg in an insulting manner. You know what that is? stereotyping "neurodivergent" people: AKA bigotry. So in your new world order you will get fucked in the ass with the barbed wire of censorship.

How can someone lack perspective on an issue when they pretty clearly explained their perspective? Perspective is just that: the way one perceives something. You imply there's only one way to have an opinion on it, which I'm assuming is yours.

Laws against harassment and threats aren't legally censorship. The world isn't black and white where we either allow all forms of speech ever or no forms of speech at all.

She lacks perspective because she does not see the full implications of policing language based on the subjective assessment of stupid people like sarkeesian who thinks calling her "a liar and that she sucks" (direct quote from her UN speech) and criticizing her is harassment. You can either address that issue and refute my opinion or go with "that's like your opinion man"

I don't really care if you want to call it censorship or not , I have explicitly stated what i mean, the semantic debate is worthless. And no I do not advocate for absolute free speech, just because i oppose this type of bullshit. It seems like you are looking at it as black and white if you think I do.

The problem with civil rights is, when you get down to specifics ... I can do what I want to do, but you can't do what you want to do, particularly if it is the very same thing I am doing.  Aka people of types are stupid "eggplants".

Do you or do you not agree that if a person threatens to rape or kill another person over any telecommunications device that the person making the threat should be investigated and if there is ample evidence that they did indeed make threats of violence agianst another person they should be prosecuted by the law?

No I didn't call you a sperg. If you are able to read you can see that I called all the misogynistic neckbearded basement dwellers that constitute the MRM and Gamergate...spergs. And I thought you were against all forms of censorship...of course not when it comes to people speaking their mind about your little fringe sub-culture. After posting that image, I worried that it might be taken that way, but figured most people wouldn't interpret it like that and quickly dismissed it as an irrational fear.  And yet, here we are.  I could have probably saved you some time if you had simply asked what I meant by that image or for clarification before posting a detailed refutation of a position that I do not hold.

My point isn't to dismiss sexism in the west by pointing to worse sexism in the mideast.  My point was that drumming up non-issues like this - allegedly fighting on behalf of women - seem perverse when there is still plenty of real sexism against women to combat.

Coming from you, I actually didn't take it that way, but I imagined other people here would. I guess in a way I should have made my post more clear that I didn't think you were the sort of person who would tell women to quit whining because it could always be worse.

That's what I tried to explain at the end but I don't think I did the best job of doing it. When it's contained to the West alone even I still think there are problems. Our maternity laws are awful, there are still some pay gaps (though they're closing), and women aren't well-represented in government. And yet you're right, people are getting mad about an eggplant emoji and it makes no sense. If that's the hill that people are choosing to fight on, nothing will ever change.
