An Ohio father arrested when a cable installer finds the rotting corpse of an infant in its crib. The guy didn't want the family to find out the baby had died and even put garbage in the room to cover up the smell...
WTF is wrong with people?

Mental illness is more common than people will admit to. I admit to mine, and thus I can manage it. The first problem is mental patients being unable to recognize or admit that they have mental problems. The second problem is that the many treatments for mental illness ... are inadequate or worse than the disease. This guy clearly had a ... major problem. It might be true that he is a moron (as medically defined). We don't have much that can help that condition either.
A mother was recently caught having smothered her newborn. Women generally, and postpartum particularly ... are unstable. That is my experience ... not that men are all that stable either.
My initial reaction is that this is a very sad story, that the child died and on certain level he just couldn't accept it. That may not be the case but it reminds of a story where an elderly man's wife died and he kept her body in a freezer because he didn't want to live without her and felt the need to still take care of her.

You have got to be kidding, you are one of the most rational people at the forum. But then again, I'm not the most normal person here.
Being a freethinker doesn't exclude being rational, but it doesn't require it either. Sometimes imagination is necessary, sometimes imagination goes too far. That is what separates cultural conformists from cultural non-conformists and from cultural avant-guard. Are we resisting the status quo for whatever reason, or are we exploring possible futures?

A significant proportion of the population will experience mental illness. This holds true across many different types of people.

I don't really indulge in either one.
