People tend to regard Hitler and the Nazis as being part of an inherently anti-Christian movement. At the same time, though, the Germany which elected Hitler was overwhelmingly Christian - Jews were a minority and no other religion had significant numbers. What was it that caused Hitler to be so appealing to German Christians?

In Betrayal: German Churches and the Holocaust, Robert P. Ericksen and Susannah
Heschel write:

[T]here were many enthusiastic supporters of National Socialism in both the Catholic and Protestant churches. Conversely, there were few church figures who exhibited a stance, by word or deed, in opposition to the regime. Carl Amery, a Catholic reflecting back upon what he labels the "capitulation" of the Catholic church to the Nazi regime, describes a "milieu Catholicism" that made this capitulation possible. Milieu Catholics believed in discipline, punctuality, cleanliness, and respect for authority; and the Nazi Party advocated all of these traditional virtues.

The Catholic and Protestant churches both fervently opposed godless communism, and Hitler professed himself the most powerful anticommunist in Germany. Christians tended to be stridently antimodern, rejecting the modern tendencies toward urban, secular culture that had begun to permeate Germany in the 1920s. They did not like the fast lifestyle of the roaring twenties or the open, democratic practices of Weimar Germany, which advocated freedom of speech and belief and practiced tolerance toward the culturally diverse.

Hitler attracted Christians by criticizing the liberalism of democratic government and by advocating a tougher, law-and-order approach to German criminals. He opposed pornography, prostitution, abortion, homosexuality, and the "obscenity" of modern art, and he awarded bronze, silver, and gold medals to women who produced four, six, and eight children, thus encouraging them to remain in their traditional role in the home. This appeal to traditional values, coupled with the militaristic nationalism that Hitler offered in response to the national humiliation of the Versailles Treaty, made National Socialism an attractive option to many, even most Christians in Germany.

my guess is simply because hitler embodied everything christianity held to its core beliefs, in its own supremacist rule over all other beliefs, in the condemnation of other religions, along with homosexuals, the 'faithless' and others of that line.

Argumentum ad populum, because Christians were the most numerous, hitler appealed to them, and summoned the most depraved aspects of Christianity in his butchering of anyone that didn't live by those beliefs. Regardless if hitler was christian or not, he simply used the type of insanity that christian followers were easily lead by toe validate all he did.

Where do people think Hitler got his anti-Jewish feelings and thoughts from?  Martin Luther was a huge influence for him and the Catholic church had little love of the Jew.

Mike CL is correct, regarding anti-Semitism in Germany.  That and the historical temperament of Germans tends toward child abuse, and Hitler was abused as a child.  They want their children to be tough enough to survive in a hostile world.  The Jewish equivalent is to be smarter than anyone else in the room, since force is usually not an option, except in modern Israel.  What Lutherans won't tell you, is that Luther was a disappointed gentile messiah ... he expected to bring about the end of the world, and part of that was the mass conversion of Jews to true Christianity aka Lutheranism.  The German Jews politely declined his offer.  And he believed that this prevented the Second Coming of Christ ... and the culmination of his overthrow of Catholicism.  Rabbinic Judaism is also the result of the failed messiahship of Bar Kochba ... and rabbis carefully edit their history so you don't know that.  Of course German Catholics and Lutherans (aka rebelling Catholics) believed that Jews were G-d killers (we have awesome supernatural powers, we can even prevent the Second Coming if we want).  There was the "blood libel" that Jews made matzo for Passover using the blood of Christian children ... and that we could torture Christ by stabbing the communion wafer ;-))  So Germans literally believed that if they didn't kill the Jews, then the Jews would prevent the Christians from getting to heaven, and even kill their god, again and again.  Think of Germans speaking jihadis instead of the Arab speaking equivalent.  Muhammad also, was somewhat of a failure, because of the betrayal of the Jewish Arabs in Medinah, forced him to revaluate part of his messiahship (the Arab Jews in Medinah thought he might be the Jewish messiah).  This is why Muhammad switched the qiblah (direction of prayer) from Jerusalem to Mecca.  So by all means, protect yourself if you can ... otherwise someday you will wake up with a matzo ball (from the soup) in your mouth ... bwahaha!

Hitler believed he was the Second Coming (but with Nordic pagan roots) ... but Emperor Constantine beat him to it ;-)  Catholics also carefully cover that up, and the strange hybrid religion that Constantine invented ... with a few bits thrown in by Paul.  It has nothing to do with the G-d's Kingdom message.  And Hitler was a self-hating Jew ... he had to keep that from the German public too ;-))  The book, Constantine's Sword goes into detail about this.

Constantine's Sword is a book by James Carroll, a partially lapsed Catholic.

Christians object to the existence of Jews and Muslims ... because we continue to challenge their foundation myth, with their own foundation myths.  For me, I can look soberly at any myth, and see it for what it is ... an extended metaphor ... that is very powerful, and therefore coopted and abused by powerful people.
