Title: Rick Steves' The Holy Land
Post by: Shiranu on March 23, 2015, 07:59:09 AM

I personally really enjoyed it, and I have to say... my view of what Palestine is like has completely changed. Here in the West we only see pictures of it when it's in smoke, and they only show the ugliest parts. Turns out alot of Palestine looks just as cosmopolitan as any other developed countries.

While I consider myself pro-Palestinian, I do have to admit I had a slight bias about what Palestine actually looked like, and how the people behaved. I was picturing some place more like the remains of Syria mixed with Saudi Arabia's puritanism; filled with burnt buildings and women walking around in burqas. Instead there are women with their hair and faces fully exposed, wearing western clothing, going to universities and the people seem really friendly.

I think if you want to really have your opinion on Palestine as a place (not politically, but as a people) this is actually a really good show.

Thanks Shiranu, that was interesting. I would hate to have to drive a car in some of those places with so many people in the way. Solitary
