Title: Hello
Post by: Jhayward on January 04, 2015, 10:52:14 AM
My name is Jason.  I am making an introduction upon request.  I am married with two kids (girls).  I am an engineering professor at a research university in the United States, and I find this fun.  I became a Christian while I was a teenager and still hold this conviction, but I have a number friends and colleagues who do not have the same beliefs.  I am also a former military officer.  I like hanging out with my family, reading, keeping in shape,  kayaking, fishing, and I am about to start ice hockey.

Hi Jhayward! Welcome!

What brings you to an atheist forum?

What brings you to an atheist forum?

That is a question I have as well.

pickelledeggs and snp1: The forum description says the forum is for 'believers,' too, but partly curiosity... and the ability to be be real with people in a way unlike one typically is at the workplace.

It does say that, but the majority of believers don't come here for benevolent conversation, you may be faced with a frosty reception, because of prior experiences.

At any rate, welcome, and you'll be welcome as long as you don't behave like a cretin

GrinningYMIR and others: Well, tell me if I am making you uncomfortable here with what I say, and I will bug off... based on what I have seen in a few other forums recently, I understand what you are saying

If you are willing to discuss what you say, then there shouldn't be any problems. Open mindedness helps.

welc00me to the forum. We have had many xians members over the years, some have stayed but most get run off. Most of us are ex-religious and some have never been religious. Most of us are very familiar with the babble and some have never bothered to look at it. Many here came to this "non-belief" after years of study and searching, some simply looked about and said, "bull-shit".

As long as you wish to add to the conversation like everyone else you are most welcome, but spare us the preaching, you cannot possibly add anything we have not already heard.

Again, welcome.

Ok great. We do not have a problem with the religious being a part of the forum.  As long as you're not proselytizing, spamming, or breaking the other rules, we will continue to welcome you here. [emoji3]

Well, hi.

Jayson, please keep in mind that more times than not, theists that come in to this forum act like complete assholes trying to convert us, or tell us we're going to hell, or spamming their beliefs in an aggressive way. Theists are more than welcome to be active members as long as they follow the rules. It goes the same way for atheists and we have banned many atheists, not just theists for being persistent in breaking rules and pissing everyone off.

As of now, you don't seem like a dipshit, you are actually coming off pretty civil and pleasant. But if you keep in mind that current members have much frustration here on the forum with religious people and even moreso and more severely in real life... and you show them that you are a decent human being, people will grow to be patient with you.

Just keep up the good work and you'll do fine.

Welcome to the forum.

Please keep your hands to yourself, if you mention nudity - pics or it didn't happen, do not try to pet antithesis as they clearly have their "do not touch" vest on for your safety and therefore are not liable for injuries, heathen is an acceptable term to use if it makes you feel better - we also accept infidel, atheist, humanist, freethinker, and some person, and please read the "Present Evidence" thread before starting any debate.

If you do decide to champion for the Christian cause, please bear in mind that we will ridicule your beliefs but will typically draw the line at personal insults. Many of us prefer to use logic, but not all atheists are logical, since atheism is nothing more than lacking a belief in god. A person who believes that god does not exist is an anthitheist, and or rather a gnostic atheist, which would be an illogical claim, whereas an agnostic atheist doesn't believe in god but acknowledges they lack sufficient evidence to know if a god exists or not.

Many atheists on here will have been harmed by religion in one way or another, and therefore will not have a very high opinion of it. Yes, we believe good people exist, but we believe it takes religion to make good people do bad things.

Ok, that should be a quick glance at orientation. Beer, coffee, tea, and other refreshments to the right and the special brownies, your grandmother's cookies, and the never-ending buffet charged to the Westboro Baptist church's expense account is to your left. Feel free to make yourself at home. :)

Welcome to Jhayward! The best way to fit in is to be a real person. Hop into a thread that looks interesting and shoot the breeze.

Chicken fingers will be served at the buffet table. How we got chickens to grow fingers is a question I cannot answer.
