In another Papal pontification, the Pope settles an often asked question once and for all. Dogs go to heaven. Apparently, the Bible is not entirely clear on this. The comments that follow the article reference parts of the Bible that may shed light on the topic. Still the Pope has spoken, and I'm so glad, because I was told dogs don't go to heaven, and I hated that answer.
why take the chance of loosing a generation of dog lovers when you can change the rules and "voila" step right up and join the church with rover and buster…..twenty bucks please!
Ok Dandy Frankie, doggies go to your imaginary heaven... now how about doing something really useful like, I don't know... giving all the pedophile priests over to the authorities?

Absolutely. Why be so damn exclusive about it, especially when you know it's going to break a little kids heart? Telling a kid his dog doesn't go to heaven does nothing, absolutely nothing, to make him want to love God. There's no upside to it. Well, I suppose if you're a dog hater, heaven might seem more appealing without them.
We've known this since the 80's, come on pope

This is in direct contrast to what someone told me yesterday at work. The guy was confused as to how a dog can dream since they don't have a soul. I walked away after that because I didn't want to get into how brains work and that I'm pretty sure all mammals have dreams and probably most other animals with a brain.
Don't worry. The pope is just an employee of the major movie producers doing PR work.. (Papal regurgitation)
My one puppy dreams every night, and when he has a nightmare he cuddles up to me shaking. The whole idea that humans go to heaven, and are special, is so fucking arrogant to me. Religion, to me, is the most efficient form of fascism there is with it prejudice and bigotry. :axe:

I've never heard that dreaming requires a soul. How do theists figure such things out? I've heard that dogs don't have souls, but why does that mean they can't dream?

They generally don't figure these things out. They just guess at whatever feels all warm and cuddly and fuck any reasoning.
Does the pope say anything about cats? Or my pet canary?
If they can't go into heaven, then why bother?
Since god is a fictional character do like minded fictional characters also go to heaven?
