My name is Carrie Bee and I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. Most people raised as JWs end up atheist. I believe it's because the belief system is so abusive that once you leave it forces you to open your mind and realize that religion in general is abusive! I just recently published my first novel based on my growing up as an only child with 2 very devout JW parents. It gives a lot of insight to what it was like to not have birthday, holidays and not being allowed to salute the flag or go to the prom.
The name of my fictional memoir is Paradise Bound. It's available online, as an ebook, and anywhere books are sold. If your interested in learning about the mind control and what it does to a young mind coming of age, this is a great read for you!

Welcome, Carrie Bee! I hope you enjoy your stay! What else can you tell us about yourself?
P.S. and FYI: We don't allow advertising and link posting for people that are members for less than 3 months and with less than 30 posts (http://atheistforums.com/index.php?topic=5589.0). This is mostly to avoid spam on the site. Thank you!
Welcome, Carrie Bee, you have found a good place to be.
What a life! I really had not thought too much about what it must be like for a child to be raised by JW's. I bet you have thousands of stories. In any case, welcome.
Welcome Carrie Bee! Please tell us something more about you.

Yeah. She logged off almost immediately after I posted and removed the link to her book in her post.
So far it seems like she just gave us a "Wham. Spam. Thank you ma'am." Because she hasn't been on since.
Greetings Carrie. A life of openness and logic is a life well worth having, and to no longer live in fear.
I hope your book sells, there needs to be more writers giving real life accounts of this, it happens far to often and they never have a voice.
Gosh..a gripping take of being a JW.. I bet it's more riveting than the Brady Bunch saga..
Oh what am I saying? NOTHING is more riveting than the torrid tales of Greg, Marsha, Peter, Jan, Bobby and Cindy! :wtff:
That was quick! :sad2:
She's likely been saved from our evil clutches.. Well THANK GOD!
SmOff When I look in your eyes I see piss holes in the snow! :kidra: :butt:

Funny...that's what my dad said when I came home pissy drunk and hungover..
Hello again! Today I was thinking how wonderful it is to have been able to remove religion from my life. Once my mind was free there was no turning back. Anytime people talk about god, christianity, religion or whatever... this feeling of annoyance takes over me. I hate to come across aloof but it's how I feel. Growing up as a Jehovah's Witness was bad on so many levels... my elder father was terribly arrogant. Now I believe in humanity. Had man not spent so much time worrying about making up stories and focused more on each other as people the world wouldn't be in such deplorable condition! Jehovah's Witnesses are a doomsday cult and I grew up in constant fear. The only thing I fear now is that the world may never be rid of religion.. .

Heavy alcohol use and smoking tons of pot will cure that problem.. Oh wait! I see you've put a ! where there should have been a ? instead.. That's Wtf is wrong.. Easy to fix..
Paradise would be OK if it wasn't just sitting around all day being all holy and Christian. You meet a new soul in Heaven, and you say, "Hello, do you believe Jesus is your Lord and Savior?" and the person replies, "Oh yes, I love Jesus." And you say, "I love Jesus too."
There needs to be something meaningful besides worshiping a deity all the time. You need to have some wilderness to hike in with birds and animals, and some uncrowded ski areas with endless assortments of runs.

Religion is not the problem. Too many atheists are looking into it too much. The problem is with the atrocities that man has made manifest throughout the ages. Religion is not the only source of negativity. There are many atheists who performed horrific acts of genocide, rape and torture. Joseph Stalin is a disgusting example of what even atheists are capable of. Just because you wear a label "atheist" does not make you PERFECT. I hope you can show some love to your fellow man. FUCK LABELS.

pffftt! Speak for yourself. The rest of us are indeed quite perfect.
Hi!
Is it really true that JW's shun people and once you are shunned, any JW is forbidden from even talking to them or be shunned themselves?

I'm sorry you had to go through something like that to arrive at your conclusion.
