The NFL banned a gun ad because it was a gun ad. The linked video is the ad followed by Colin Noir's criticism of the move.

The guy in the commercial if a former Marine, and in it he asserts that noone has the right to tell him how best to defend his family which, since returning home from active duty, has become his number one priority.

The commercial itself is cheesy as fuck, but I feel Noir makes a good argument about all the other incredibly shitty garbage the NFL will allow to air during its games without batting an eye.

I think its wrong to ban any speech, commercial or not. Infuriating or not. Cheesy or not. Yes, even wrong or not. What the NFL did was hypocritical.
