Title: TED Talks
Post by: Jesus on July 16, 2013, 01:14:49 AM
I enjoy watching TED talks as it brings new ideas I could have never thought of. What are you guys' thoughts on TED talks? Granted that there are some ideas I disagree with, I still think TED is absolutely brilliant in terms of entertainment and edification.

QuoteWhat are you guys' thoughts on TED talks?

It seems as if each time I set up a new media toy that supports showing the TED Channel (HTPC running XBMC, Roku, 2 x Raspberry PI with XBMC, etc.) I always add the TED channel, watch a few shows, get bored and then delete it.  I only really watch documentaries (and porn, but that goes without saying), so TED should be a channel I like, but I just don't.  I like PBS for maybe a third of the documentaries I watch with the rest from assorted sources.

TED is awesome. I wish they'd show that stuff on tv instead of the bull they do now, people might actually learn something.

I like watching new discoveries. One guy brought up evidence that eating a moderate amount of tomatoes with your meals reduces the likelihood to develop cancer by 50%.

I like this one. Like dozens of others, but I happen to be looking at this one right now :)

Oh, and this is probably very worthwhile to our local religious friends.

I think Ted Talks are very interesting and the speakers often present topics that I research further. They are perfect to watch on my lunch break.

One of my favorite ones is one on 3D printing. I get excited about the possible effects of rapid prototyping on manufacturing, plus the woman who does that talk is pretty cute.

And there's one about the effects of porn and masturbation on the brain. I have somewhat of a personal interest in what benefits there might be in abstaining from that.

One of family members introduced me to TED. I find some of these videos sort of vague to complex. Some even bias. However I can not deny the contributions.

Something you don't have the background to understand can seem vague or complex.

QuoteSome even bias.
Biased in what way?  Toward reality?
