Title: Follow up to site status.
Post by: aitm on January 15, 2026, 03:58:10 PM
Greetings all. Many of you have seen Naru's post in announcements about the welfare of this site. This site is based on a program that is becoming obsolete and difficult to maintain without a rather high tech ability, and getting pricey.

Most of you are also aware and notified that Popeye has set up a new site, aware of the possible future demise of this one. That site is here. https://www.atheistforums.net/ . Similar in style and set-up. Most of you long time members have been notified but if for some reason you did not get included please don't feel offended, come and join us at your leisure. We expect this current site will eventually fade away into the interwebby cemetery, and we are ready with a new home.

I have been a member here for 18 years, and a mod for about 15. Though moderator is a generous term, all I can do is boot people. I do not, nor have ever professed to be capable of helping run a forum.  Put me behind the curtain and all hell would collapse. I have contributed over the years to its upkeep and expenses and over the last five years offered twice to purchase the domain but that was met with "meh". With that said, my dedication to the new site will be just as active, however we will need some assistance from you if you wish. It is NOT that hard with this new site to be able to contribute with its operation. Most of you younger folks will find this well within your abilities. Me, not so much.

Both Popeye and I want this a membership based forum, but you know new forums, especially atheistic ones will get hit with spam, bots and assholes. I do not have the ability to deal with that and help is needed. I want to assure you that this system will be very easy for you to work with. I ask each of you to visit the site, poke around a bit, offer suggestions but by all means reach out to Popeye if you would like to view some of the inner workings. It will NOT be difficult for you younger people. I am 70. And yes I could still try to learn new things, but I don't want to blow up Montana by accident. 😁.

I hope you will consider signing up.

Tom
