The executive order signed by President Trump last night, directing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to eliminate federal funding for PBS and NPR, is a direct threat to our local, trusted public media stations, Nine PBS and St. Louis Public Radio.
Make no mistake – this is a politically motivated action that only harms local stations, distracts us from our work, and threatens Nine PBS's core mission to educate, inform, and connect our community. At its core, this order puts at risk the essential services that St. Louisans depend on and that taxpayers have already wisely invested in.
As Corporation for Public Broadcasting President Pat Harrison rightly stated, "CPB is not a federal executive agency subject to the President's authority. Congress directly authorized and funded CPB to be a private nonprofit corporation wholly independent of the federal government."
Everyone across the St. Louis region has the right to access trusted, high-quality programming, education, and journalism—free from commercial influence and available to all. Nine PBS is committed to protecting that right. We will join our fellow stations and national partners to oppose this order, but we need the community to stand with us. I could not believe and still cannot believe that this man is our president. 77 million Americans decided that a trans kid trying to play in girls softball in Outer Nebrakistan - which could be best handled by the local school board - was more important than actually governing with any semblance of rational policy.
The American Congress has ceded power to the Executive branch, and will apparently not get any of that power back.
Don't forget the Supreme Court with its supremely absurd decision about presidential immunity. Garcia has not been returned to the US despite the 9-0 order. Apparently the word "facilitate" is super complicated in order to pretend this is not a constitutional crisis.
Good to hear - when your organization is run entirely by one party and used to spread conspiracy theories it deserves to have it's taxpayer funding stripped.

Truly. Those organizations have been around for like 50-60 years Listen to the, occasionally over the years never thought I remotely drafted a conspiracy theory, but hey. Like CBS, NBC and ABC have been reporting facts for longer, then comes in Lumpy Limbaugh realizing he could, and boy howdy, make millions by scaring old white people into believing the blacks and minorities are taking over the "god bless amurica" and suddenly we get Fox, who, I am sure Shir will admit is fair and balanced because they always start their opinion pieces with screaming ,"THE RADICAL LEFTY LUNATICS ARE PUSHING HOMOISM, ATHEISM AND COMMUMISM DOWN OUR THROAT AND DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY" and like the ill-educated they are they gobble it up as if shit were ribeyes. Now we have eradicated women and minorities from historical websites, removed history books and curriculum from military bases and in general decided they never did a god damn thing because they were DEI. Declared war on marginalized people, declared that dwarfs and mental incompetents are at the controls of air towers, declared trannies responsible for plane crashes, declared that woemn and blacks are inferior to good old whitey, who stands their chewing on a straw while not know how many feet are in a mile.
