Title: Well shit. I only thought I done good
Post by: PopeyesPappy on July 30, 2024, 08:58:30 PM
My brother's 60th birthday is coming up soon. I wanted to get him something nice. I found a complete set of Leonard Susskind's Theoretical  Minimum books on physics in hardback, and ordered them for him.

He is more than a bit of a math nerd, and I thought he would like these. Then out of the blue today my brother starts talking about string theory. He is not a fan, and Susskind is considered to be the father of string theory. Shit.

Tough break, man. My brother just turned 50 and I had no idea what to get him. The thing I wanted was a water bottle with a bluetooth speaker for a cap. I bought one on clearance at the grocery store, because I thought it was stupid, but they didn't have any more. Dammit.

I believe that is what the kids these days would call a "big oof."

I once had a copy of the first Theoretical Minimum book, but didn't have the math skills to really understand it as well as I would have liked. I do like string theory, though, and enjoy watching videos with Suskind, Brian Greene and such people.
I just wish they could get some experimental verification of the theory.

I broke my math bone in the 5th grade, it never healed right.
