QuoteThe Syrian envoy to the United Nations has condemned what he said is endemic ‘fake news’ reporting around the current battle for Aleppo - but undermined his argument by using a photograph from Iraq to show what he said is the current situation in the Syrian city.
During an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in New York on Tuesday to discuss action on the escalating humanitarian crisis in Aleppo, Bashar Jaafari described the operation which has left hundreds dead as a “liberation.â€
“The actions we've taken in Aleppo have had the overarching goal of protecting civilians. Allow me at this stage show you some photos that I have. This is what the Syrian army is doing in Aleppo,†Mr Jaafari said, holding up a picture he said was of a soldier helping an elderly woman leave the last rebel enclaves in east Aleppo.
It was quickly noticed, however, that the picture was actually of a member of the Iraqi Shia militia known as the Popular Mobilisation Forces, helping a civilian after the city of Fallujah was freed from Isis in June.

So basically, the news is that a liar condemns lying. Film at 11.
Who are the rebels that the Syrian army is pushing out of Aleppo? Are they ISIS?

What's happening in Aleppo?

Wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Aleppo_(2012%E2%80%9316)) has a pretty decent rundown on that.
I use http://syria.liveuamap.com/ for a relatively recent strategic overview. Aleppo is the very northeastern part of the red territory. You'll know it by the crapton of markers all over it.
The key is extremely simplified, but here's how it works:
Red = pro-Assad forces
Green = anti-Assad rebels
Black = ISIS/Daesh
Yellow = Kurds
Meanwhile, about reporting on Aleppo or on Syria all over:

Credibility takes a hit once again. Poor sucker should have fact checked the propaganda Assad gave him. Or maybe Assad should have fact checked, or someone.
