Title: Hello all, need some help
Post by: atkiehl80 on September 18, 2016, 01:18:28 PM
My wife and I have been married for fifteen years. My wife is a Christian, and I am not religious at all. We've been having problems with our marriage and I would like to do the "Love Dare" with her. It's something she tried to get me to do before, but I couldn't get past the religious aspect of it. Is there anyone who might be familiar with this book that could give me some advice on how to make this work?

The Fireproof book?
Nah, haven't ever used it. No intent either. Maybe the book is worth a shot, though I don't think us atheists could do the prayer part genuinely.
Sorry to hear about your problems.  I hope things work out. Communication is the key, I feel. But that's about as far as I can go, without knowing you and your wife. Good luck.

And welcome to our little band of heathens.

I have advice, but I'm also very shallow when it comes to religious people and relationships/friendships with me, so I'll keep my mouth shut... lol

The Five Love Languages is a good marriage book.  Just ignore the religious aspects, and stick to the practical.  And good luck ... I wish I had more help when I was younger and still married.  Friends are often more helpful than relatives, and you might find a pastor etc to not fit you.  But anyone's advice can backfire.  That you still want to restore your relationship is the most positive sign you could have.  I hope your spouse feels likewise.
