Per MMT theory ... taxes are actually unnecessary.  But then MMT folks are insane.  MMT is the theory of cash/credit flow, that concentrates on the flows, and ignores the supply, provided that supply is isn't too low.  In that theory, the Treasury can simply create enough cash/credit every year, to equal the GDP (as it develops).  In that creation from nothing, there are no consequences (inflation).  Which is to say, in their theory, the oversupply of cash/credit doesn't drive inflation, but other causes do.  Socialism and people here should support MMT theory, because in that theory, you can afford any and all social programs, and the only reason not to do so, is because the rich are sadists, not because there isn't enough money/credit to pay for it.

Typical tax the poor (because there are so many of them) logic.  Say you have a teacher earning an income of $50,000.  And say you have a wealthy guy who inherited $50,000,000 and has no actual income.  The rich guy pays nothing.

Tax the assets along with the income...

Doesn't match up with quote.  In MMT ... there are no taxes on rich or poor.  I am not advocating MMT, just point out that Progressives should.

If you have rich and poor, and you have taxes (as we do) then that is a whole other question.

Ahh, found your MMT tax argument on a facebook page.  What a bad example of logic THAT was!

I love it when people tell me what I "should" believe in. I believe in facts. If MMT works, let's see the evidence supporting that. Otherwise, how about we actually tax the people who have plenty to spare?

Warren's idea about taxing assets of those over $50M and $1B makes some sense.  Income tax was general when most people earned money that way, but things have changed.

Things have changed because the rich have bought the legislators in congress. With all that money they can stack the deck in their favor to make and keep even more money. And they have no checks and balances to keep them in their place.

I'd be interested to hear how you would set that up.

Forget taxing the assets. I'd be satisfied if we just took away all the numerous loopholes the rich use to avoid taxation on their massive incomes.

Try communism too.  It will be too late after your grand experiment with humanity, Dr Frankenstein.  Without forethought, you are just a bumper car.

Not arguing against taxation.  In the current scheme of things, it is necessary.  But we can't do it right, because we are a criminal species (original sin).  Christians think you can expiate original sin, but I am telling you, they are wrong.  There is no redemption from Hell.

That and more, was true in 1960.  But we have fallen into the septic tanks since then.  If you tax A, of course the rich move their money making to B.  They aren't stupid.  You are (more money = more smart ... at least in Belair).

They paid Congress to put those loopholes in.  And the voters were taken to the cleaners.  Still want to play this game?

Easy ... high real estate taxes.  In one scheme, you only have real estate tax, not income tax.  This makes the landowners pick up the entire tab.

How to confiscate gold?  Make a tax that has to be paid in gold, not dollars.

BTW - corporations don't pay taxes.  They pass the tax onto their customer, employees and vendors.

All those big fines that the banks were charged over the past 10 years?  They got to take it off their corporate income tax as a deduction.

You ask that as if I have a choice? It's either vote or give up. Those are the only options when it comes to this "game."

Exactly ... once said ...

Can't win, can't break even, can't get out of the game.  Life is an opportunity to show character in adversity, and whining about it doesn't cut it.
