That little video had me laughing, but there's a scary aspect about it too. These guys are play acting for sure, but the scary part is that so many believe it.  Sal just put up a video in a new thread about "knowing everything."  Among other things, it makes the case that logic, Hell, let's not even use the word "logic."  Let's just say "thinking," is not humankind's default state.  I've thought this and brought it up at times, but it's the first time I've heard someone else talk about it.  We are not a lot brighter than our ape cousins.  Sure we have the occasional Einstein or Hawking or Gates that change society in dramatic ways, but they make up a percentage of society that approaches zero, while everyone else takes the credit for being smarter than chimps.

I watched a July 4th All Gas No Breaks (basically, a show where random crazies take the mic) and I felt my eyes rolling out of my head.  One guy in that party hearty crowd (no masks, no social distancing) had this genius argument that the virus isn't real because he didn't know anyone who had it.  A nursing student (who definitely should have known better than to be in a crowd) chimed in that it was real and this guy put him on the spot, asking if he knew anyone who had it.  The student confessed that he didn't and the guy acted like that was a mic drop moment.

Let's follow that logic for a bit in our daily lives.  I've never been to Australia and don't know anyone who has.  Therefore, Australia does not exist.  Same with WWI, pluto, dinosaurs, the roman empire, and the black plague.

If I were to draw a venn diagram of things that have happened and things that have happened to me or to people I personally know, my circle would be a little dot in a basically infinite circle.

And what's more, almost all knowledge about the world is through other people - there are so many discoveries going on that no one person can possibly have personally experienced it all.  As a matter of practicality, one has to rely on the experts who make those sorts of discoveries and assume that they're fact-checked by their colleagues.  Civilization allows individuals to become specialists instead of generalists - without it, we'd all be nomadic hunter-gatherers.  But if people no longer believe experts - if it's all just your word against mine - then reality itself is a matter of opinion.
