Title: MB says UN document on violence against women unislamic.
Post by: pr126 on March 14, 2013, 01:53:52 AM
Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood says UN document on violence against women violates Islamic rules (//http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/egypts-muslim-brotherhood-says-un-document-on-violence-against-women-violates-islamic-rules/2013/03/13/1257d688-8bfe-11e2-af15-99809eaba6cb_story.html)
QuoteCAIRO — Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood sharply criticized an anticipated U.N. document on combatting violence against women, saying on Wednesday that it was "deceitful," clashed with Islamic principles and undermined family values.

The text of the document has not been published because negotiations are continuing, regarding how to address sexual violence and rights of women to control their sexuality as well as sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Diplomats and observers tracking the debate are optimistic of agreement before the two-week meeting of the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women wraps up Friday in New York. One participant said Egypt is seeking to introduce an opt-out clause to allow each country to implement the document according to its own traditions.

According to the Brotherhood, which has emerged as the most powerful political faction in Egypt since the 2011 uprising, the draft under discussion advocates sexual freedoms for women and the right to abortion "under the guise of sexual and reproductive rights."

In its strongly worded statement, the Brotherhood also decried the document's defense of homosexual rights, which are not recognized in Islam, and the equating between children born in and out of wedlock.

It said the title of the document addressing violence is "deceitful."
There is the Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam (//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cairo_Declaration_on_Human_Rights_in_Islam)

Article 24 of the declaration states: "All the rights and freedoms stipulated in this Declaration are subject to the Islamic Sharia." Article 19 also says: "There shall be no crime or punishment except as provided for in the Sharia."[7]

Which in effect annuls all previous articles in the declaration.

However, since they already have their own "Human Rights" declaration, why interfere with the UN Universal Declaration? Should it be changed to suit Islamic Laws?

Because if Egypt refuses to sign the UN declartion they'll be putting themselves in a bad light.  And if they sign it, then violate it (which they will), they'll be putting themselves in a bad light.  Unless the declaration is changed (read: "gutted"), it's lose-lose for them.

Sharia and civilization don't mix well.

Allah the most merciful of those who shows mercy allows wife beating if you fear disobedience, i always wondered how muslim men can keep their 4 wives in line and behaving.

Banishing them to beds apart works with polygamy, you still have a few more wives you can poke and since there is no prescribed punishment for those who have sex with animals you can even fuck your pet donkey if you think it is a nice ass.

The word "lightly" is added by the translator and it is not present in the original Arabic version.
[spoil:15f73n1g]Quran 4:34 Men (Muslims) are in charge of women (Muslimah), therefore Allah has made the Muslim (men) to excel the Muslim (women), and because Muslim (men) spend of their property, so good women (Muslimah) are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah has guarded. As for those women (Muslimah/wives) from whom you fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and beat them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them...

Other translations render the phrase "beat them" as:

Ahamed: "beat them (lightly at the very last)"

al-Bayt Institute: "and strike them"

Arberry: "and beat them"

Asad: "then beat them"

Daryabadi: "and beat them"

Dawood: "and beat them"

Haleem: "then hit them"

Hilali/Khan: "(and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful)"

Irving: "and (even) beat them"

Kanz ul-Eeman: "beat them (lightly)"

Khalifa: "then you may (as a last alternative) beat them"

Malik: (and then if necessary) beat them"

Noorudin/Omar: "punish them (mildly)"

Pickthall: "and scourge them"

Rodwell: "and scourge them"

Saheeh int'l: "(and finally) strike them"

Sale: "and chastise them"

Shakir: "and beat them"

Sher Ali: "and chastise them"

Stephens/Darwish: "and smack them(without harshness)"

Yusuf Ali: "(And last) beat them (lightly)"

Note: words in parentheses () are the translators' interpolation into the text. Those words do not exist in the Arabic text of the Koran.[/spoil:15f73n1g]

Allah the most merciful of those who show mercy does not say lightly in that verse the translator has added that.

QuoteAllah the most merciful of those who show mercy allows muslim men to keep sex slaves.

Islam allows a (muslim, i added that) man to have intercourse with his slave woman, whether he has a wife or wives or is not married.

The wife has no right to object to her husband owning female slaves or to his having intercourse with them.

And Allah knows best.

Article 4 of the universal declaration of human rights says slavery violates human rights, article 18 is also not halal according to Islam.
