But I think that not only did L´s moral hangups keep him from actively killing anyone, (though there is a trolley problem there,) but being highly competitive he also wanted, nay needed, to ´beat´ light and unmask him. He didn´t want so much for Kira to stop, as he wanted to win this ´game´.

If I remember correctly, Light uses his father's credentials to use the police database for access to classified information, knowing that it would draw L closer to him. If he hadn't done that, L would have had a much harder time narrowing suspects down to him. Very convenient for the plot, but also very stupid. Give me a Death Note. I may not be as smart as Light, but I guarantee you I would never get caught.

Yep.  Very stupid, careless move.  Your chances of being caught are basically nil unless you act in a very consistent or unique manner.  Light did just that initially.

Looking it up, it is recommends for children and adults. A room full of adults playing this game is just a poorly run orgy.
