Unbeliever

Even if there's intelligent life out there, it cannot have detected any radio signals from us yet, unless it's very close, less than about 100 light years or so. If they have really good telescopes they might know that some sort of life is  here, but they can't yet know of our technological capabilities.

Apparently this riddle comes from Japanese TV in the 80's and, having never seen the show, may not have been a real riddle as the solution back then was for one of the three to commit suicide with the knife.

So, yeah. Somehow I think things like this are better if there's a clever solution. But, life isn't always clever, is it?
Yeah, especially where I'm concerned.

If you slice diagonally thru the top third of the first apple and continue through the bottom third of the 2nd apple, no one has to die. You are left with two 2/3 size chunks for two people and two 1/3 size chunks for the third person.
2/3 + 2/3 + 2x(1/3) = 2

See, I don't buy that because it really isn't all that clever, either. Almost as straightforward as sharing two apples with two people. That and the pieces are unlikely precise. The riddle implies percision, which eyeballing 1/3 of an apple will not have.

No, I think the real solution to the riddle when it was written is the suicide option or maybe one of the other joke options. In fact, I think the original riddle didn't have the one cut from a knife stipulation and the solution was "make applesauce." This must have evolved from that one. So I think it is a joke. I will hold this belief until the day I die. *checks calendar*

Ah, one death probably was the intended "clever" answer, but you know the Japanese are famous for their blades and knife skills. Yeah, you pay for the show at those restaurants, but I do like when they catch a shrimp on their hat. Only two people getting to eat apple is not really a fair sharing solution.

How many billions did he spend on purchasing this stupid platform, and how many did he lose in the lawsuit to weasel out of the purchase? And then the world's smartest man has to ask the members for a vote? I sometimes feel like I'm living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

I had to check to see if this poll was real, or if he had deleted it after seeing the way the results were leaning. Surprisingly, it's real, and it's still up. I would be really surprised if he actually stepped down as a result of this poll.

I think you are living in the same sci-fi novel as I am.

In some countries that are run by dictators, Twitter was the only means of expression that people had left. Here in the US, Twitter is largely a misinformation cesspool but there are those I still like to keep up with. Of course, Billionaires have to run the show. Look what Murdock did to TV news.

He is not the world's smartest man. He's just a rich kid.

I should have put a /f for "facetious", or an eyeroll emoji.
